New kitten spay questions by
Nitesbane
Just adopted a cat that was left outdoors when her family deliberately moved
away without her. My best guess puts her at about 8-10 months old. I was
previously told she was "up-to-date with her shots", and she was in good
health when I picked her up off the street, so I did not immediately...

Diet change revisited by
KenK
Took Emily back to the vet last Wednesday. Prescribed steroids - says she's
seen that help in such situations. Probably be a week or more before I see
any change. One good thing, she doesn't mind the liquid dose - too much.
Smells good to me too!
Her appetite seems to be falling off a bit -...

Picking up cats by
Rhino[_3_]
I was recently advised by one of the assistants at my vet's office that
picking up an older cat by the scruff of the neck was very painful for them.
However, when I asked the vet about it a few minutes later, she just
admitted that she didn't know if it was bad to do that. My first vet...

Do Cats Smile? by
Tom Choad
My roommate's cat is laying down purring and I notice the sides of her
mouth are upturned. Does that means she is smiling?

Can cats eat Xmas ham? by
Doug2
We have a lot of leftover Xmas ham, it's got a glaze on it, but no other
spices AFAIK. Is it OK, to cut the ham in small bits and feed it to two
cats who are ~10 years old?
Thank you in advance.

What Are The Cats Doing? by
Tom Choad
They will hop on the bed, purring. Then they will start moving their
paws up and down. Not really scratching/sharpening but more gently.
Years ago my mom had a cat that did this too but only on a pink
blanket or my sister's pet stuffed pig. And she would suck on it too.
It was kinda...

Looking for the source of this dramatic cat vs dog picture by
BLink
Hey folks. Lost my Usenet account, and am reduced to Google.. hope you
can help me out.
I first saw this picture a few years ago, have seen it pop up in
various spots, and it's pretty awesome. Cat takes a swipe at a
snarling dog on a beach.
Usually these types of spats wind up with someone...

Mulligan Stew for Cats... by
Jean B.
Hi,
I don't post here much, but I thought I should warn people about
this. I am always looking for foods that the cats might like, so
I tend to scrutinize all of the food that I have not seen before.
Today, I saw Mulligan Stew for cats. Hmmm. That's interesting.
But,... how can this...

Moe is slipping away by
[email protected]
Moe is a black shorthair, a rescue kitty of indeterminate age. He is
an adult, but not elderly. He has been sick for almost a year: runny
nose, sneezing, vomiting, diarrhea, weight loss, etc. We've spent a
fortune on vet bills and medications with no solid diagnosis. I spoke
to the vet yesterday...

Hairballs - pumpkin - taste by
KenK
Since I switched Emily to Wellness canned cat food she has had hairballs
- evidently too little fiber. Every other cat food I've tried gives her
diarrhea. I finaslly discovered that ~ 3 tsp pumpkin daily kept the
hairballs at bay. Unfortunately, she hates the taste of pumpkin mixed in
her cat...

Cat food question by
KenK
Emily, 15, has a diet problem - most foods give her diarrhea, including
all the grocery-store cat food brands and flavors I've tried. She
tolerates Wellness canned well, but is getting tired of the chicken
flavor I've been feeding her for over a year now. The only store here
that sells Wellness...

CRF cat not eating by
Sara Jane
Gibbs is an 18 year old orange striped cat. She was diagnosed with renal
failure about
1 1/2 years ago. The big problem now is loss of appetite. When she was
first diagnosed, the vet prescribed pepcid. She hadn't lost weight and was
eating normally. The vet prescribed it as a preventative....

Sticky Paws by
Rhino[_3_]
I posted a few days ago about cat-proofing my mattress and several people
recommended Sticky Paws, which I found at the PetSmart website.
I was somewhat disappointed to find that three out of the four customer
reviews of Sticky Paws were very negative; they basically said it didn't
work and was...

Pilling a cat question by
jmc[_2_]
So, since the holiday means I'm running low on the liquid Tramadol, I
pilled her this morning - used peanut butter, it went very well. At
least, the pill went down, with none of the usual drooling that
accompanies the liquid. She still fights me though.
Just now though, same method, didn't go...

Rave for 'World's Best Cat Litter' by
Kalmia
I'll never switch. It clumps well, does NOT stick to side or bottom
of the litter box, very little dust, every bit is used, and not
tracked all over the house. What's not to like? Comes in small bag
too - no breaking your back with the heavy bags or pails. $6.49 -
not bad, considering you'll...
