I love Norfolk, I was at my cousin's place in Walberswick a few weeks
ago, it was like being on another planet, awesome.

Your posts don't make sense if you don't include a snippit at least of
what
you are responding to.

Sorry, I don't know how to do it, I just copied the bit above. I
thought if you read a post, then hit reply, your reply was to that
post, how do I do it? Thanks for the advice.

What newsreader are you using? It's fairly normal that a newsreader includes
the text of the post you reply to and you trim accordingly. If you are going
through Google, perhaps someone can advise... is it "show quoted text" on
Google???

Posting through Google:

Click the "show options" hyperlink next to the poster's name. A grey
box opens (well, sort of), click on reply (NOT reply to author), that
will give you the entire post. Then you may snip what you do not want.
It will allow attribution as well.

Walberswick, that'll be Suffolk ;-) Also a lovely county, next door to
Norfolk :-) Nathan does quite a few time trials in the area. Walberswick is
lovely - bitterns on the marshes.. fishing for crabs in Walberswick water...
Very peaceful area, glorious in summer. Very Ye Olde England feel - stepping
back in time, but with astronomical property prices, as it's very des-res
these days. The north Norfolk coast is equally lovely - bits of North
Norfolk referred to as Chelsea-on-Sea due to all the media/city banking
types using astronomical amounts of money to buy up properties for second
homes - so the locals can't afford to live there any more.

With Google Groups, that simply posts your reply with no quoted material
at all to show what you are talking about. And since your reply will
arrive at computers around the world at different times, it won't
necessarily arrive immediately after the post you are referring to. It
might even arrive before the post you are referring to. So you
should include just enough text from the previous post to make it clear
what your comment is about, and then add your comment below. Many,
probably most, newsreaders automatically quote the entire previous post,
so you can snip it as much or as little as necessary. I think in Google
you can do it by either clicking on 'options', then 'reply'. I dislike
web-style programs for newsgroups, and hate Google's version in
particular, so I am not a member of Google and can't check this out to
see if it works.

There is definitely a cultural difference between the USA and the UK

A shelter here would not allow a dog adoption if it had to stay on a
lead all its life. They would rightly say you do not have the
facilities.

In many places it's *illegal* to let your pet (dog or cat) run off the
leash (the entire idea is to eliminate "packs")! If caught, the animal
goes to the municipal shelter, and you can bet it's not a no-kill one.

Leash laws do vary though - in our town animals are supposed to be on
the leash at all times when off their owners' property. A nearby town
recently passed a leash law that said they could be off the leash in
the local park if they were there with an owner (or other human
responsible for them). In both towns, dogs have to wear a collar with
their registration/vaccination tags on it when outside.

My dog Sampson was never allowed to run loose. Imagine my surprise one day
when a deputy sheriff showed up at my door. Yes, they were going door to
door checking to see if people who owned dogs had their shot records, and
registration tags up to date! Like owning a car!! If Sampson hadn't barked
when he knocked, he never would have known I had a dog. I was given a
written warning and 7 days to get a tag (I did keep up his shots, I'm not
irresponsible). The deputy showed back up a week later to make sure the dog
was wearing a proper license tag on his collar. Gave Sampson a good
scritching, too :)

Forgot to say - one of my joys of cycling the lanes locally, when cycling
through villages is the number of cats I make friends with en route. I can
stop for a breather in a village and frequently I'll be visited by a curious
furry face peering over a garden wall or through a boundary hedge. It make a
cycle ride worthwhile when I am allowed to give an earscritching to a
friendly feline who has come to investigate the strange hoomin in acres of
yellow & black Lycra :-)
