Is this out of order or what?

Some friends of mine are taking a European trip- so they put Ben their
cat into a cattery. There was a bit of a panic as Ben went off his
food for a day or so but then recommenced his usual inhaling of tuna
etc.

Her husband emailed a couple of times to ask how Ben was because they
love him to bits so they wanted to be sure he was okay

The cattery owner responded after 3 days of one short email just
asking if Ben was okay by saying if he emailed her again she would
call the police and sue him for criticising her professional
judgement!

They have cut their holiday short to get Ben back

Is this unreasonable? All the emails were along the lines of "Hi it's
me again- just wanting to know Ben is okay?" How hard would it be to
type "He's fine"? Surely people who run catteries etc should be used
to this sort of thing

LOL here in the US she would be a prime candidate for Judge Judy. I know
here you could sue her for causing a disruption in their plans and the cost
it ensued to return in fear of safety of their pet etc.

they have every right to ask the place of business how their pet is. Now if
they are calling hourly or too many times a day they can tell it is too much
and to stop

This person would have a serious problem here With the social media as it
is their business would be crushed if the cattery was being run by an
idiot as it sounds.

If they did not answer me in a timely manner I would be flying back and
getting the furballs to a safe spot than suing the business owner all my out
of pocket cost due to their stupidity

They should sue her for sending a threatening email!

There are nuts in every line of work. It is usually a good idea to
avoid them.

Apparently they were concerned enough to ask a friend to visit and
although at the time when the cat went in the owner said that would
not be a problem then when the friend tried to visit he was told he
couldn't...

They are currenly waiting for the Eurostar in Paris and hope to be
back within a few hours to collect Ben

It's a shame they had to cut their trip short, but I can understand why
they'd want to get their cat out of there as soon as possible.

I think it's very unreasonable. She sounds really defensive. The question
is: defensive about *what*? Is she hiding something? I sure hope it's
nothing and she is just a weirdo. Did your friends tell her they were
coming to get him? I hope not - they shouldn't give her any time to cover
her butt, if that's what she thinks she has to do.

Purrs for all to go well! Please let us know when you hear something.

If the initial response to their emails wasn't a red flag, this
*definitely* is. Even when I was watching a neighbor's cat for
a week, they checked every day at least, and I expected it. A
pet care professional should absolutely be prepared for that sort of
behavior, and be able to handle it in an understanding manner.
If the owner *didn't* check on their pet, I'd be far more concerned!

Hope they get Ben back quickly, and that he's OK!

Purrs-

I would have thought most catteries would expect the owners to email or call
to ask after their pets. My local shelter boards cats for friends and are
surprised if they don't hear from the owners at least once whilst they are
away. I would have cut short my trip too! I do hope Ben is ok and home
safe and sound now. We take holidays in 2's in our house so someone is there
to look after Smudgie. It's a bit of a pain but means I get 2 holidays a
year out of it :)
