Calling the Jellicle Ball to order

[A platinum tabby girlcat walks to the podium. She taps the microphone
with her paw a couple times to make sure it works. She starts in a very
squeaky meow…]

Ladies and …

[She stops and clears her throat, then takes a drink from a glass on the
podium. When she speaks again, her meow is a little more controlled]

Ladies and gentlecats, goggies, squirrels, skunk, raccooms, possums, and
all of our offur guests, welcome to the 25th annual Jellicle Ball. We
thank our wonderful guests, and I’m sure we all love dis beautiful
setting in the Ozarks.

This is both a sad and a happy occasion. It is sad in that we are
remembering our dear loved ones who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge
ahead of us. It is a glad event in that we get to renew our
acquaintances with our friends and family. It is also a happy event in
that we get to share our memories of loved ones with the others. It also
allows us kitties to enjoy our friendships with offur species. And we
can take comfort knowing that our beloved friends are now free from pain
and are able to run and play and reunite with others who preceded them.

As we listen to the Calling of Names and to the tributes, if you find
that you need anything – food, water, a warm blanket, or anything else –
just signal to da service staff. Dey is all furry respectful and eager
to please.

Now – us kitties an offur aminals is greatly blessed in that we are able
to live wif hoomins an offurs who love us and share their lives wif us.
Our famblies, an our frenz, an all da strangers dat become friends – we
are all so greatly blessed. All too many kitties an goggies an offurs go
through life never knowing that they are loved. It is for these poor
unfortune that we will be calling Unknown Kitties, house of Bast.

Now, my family and friends, let’s remember those who have gone before us.

Daisy-chan isn't ready but she rarely is.

-----------

[A small white elderly cat with emerald eyes glances at the crowd and
nods.]

It is time. She is wearing a multi-colored necklace with a small
pendant of a winged green garden snake. She climbs the dais and
reaches the podium as the moon slips above the horizon to shine softly.

Guests and others who have lost loved ones, fall silent. She sets her
list down and looks straight to the guests as she reads it in braille
with her paws. At the side, a Great Dane repeats it in ASL-C/D. He is
well lit by the moon. If she reads a little slowly, it's to give him
time as he's a bit new to ASL-C/D.

Good evening, sirs and ma’am’s, and a special thank you to the
residents of this wonderful place in the Ozarks at Big Cedar Lodge.

Welcome, all, to the 24th annual Jellicle Ball!

Each October, at sundown of the evening of the first full moon, we
gather to pay tribute to our dear ones who have taken their final
journey in the year just past.

With hearts full of sorrow and abiding love, we treasure the memories
of the time they shared and the memories which are forever ours. Much
richer for having known and loved, much better for the lessons learned,
we smile despite our grief.

As always, the first name called represents those whose names we did
not know, those lost or tossed, taken through illness or abuse or
nature's fury.

We stand in silent thought, and send our hopes that they have found
peace and love at last.

[There is a short pause, then guests rise their glowsticks like candles
in memory. Light of the moon shines over all.]

We call their names, family members, dear friends, respected
strangers...our Jellicle Honorees:

Unknown Kitties, House of Bast
Ali Ridgeback, House of Stapley
Arita, House of Miranda S
Baktzer, House of Miranda S

[A moment of silence with weeping guests ensues then a paw raises a
single new glow stick over the podium to add to all the others. Her's
is for the House of Bast kitties as appropriate]

The podium is now yours my friends. Please step forward with any
tributes you wish to give.

then moves on]

As the name of Bast is evoked for all of those cats that have b3een lost a very bright light appears over the gathered cats. As each name is read a smaller light appears next to the larger one until there over a hundred smaller lights, which includes cats that could not make it to the Ball this year but who lost a beloved companion this past year surround the larger light.

As the last name is read and followed by a moment of silence, all the smaller lights spiral into the the larger light which grows ever larger and brighter over the heads the assembled cats. Suddenly the large light shoots straight up as if heading towards the Moon, where it suddenly explodes in a shower of fireworks. Even with the Full Moon out the sky becomes crystal clear, and dark, the Milky Way can be seen in all its glory, and the stars come out. New stars which are seldom seen, now shine bright.

A breeze blows through the trees and a moaning fills the air. If you listen close enough you could almost hear words forming: "Fear not, this is not the end,but only the beginning of a NEW and better Jellicle Life!"
