The mighty huntress Roadcat strikes again!

Nancy works some really long hours, but fortunately is able to do some of
her work from home. Consequently she frequently doesn't leave the house
until a hour or two after I do.

This morning she was getting ready for work when she heard a commotion out
in the kitchen. When she went to look, everybody except Cleo was gathered
around Harri Roadcat (Cleo was on greebling duty on Nancy's pillow). Harri
had a bird in her mouth and was growling at everybody with her back arched
- "keep away, this is my birdie!".

Harri has been allergy problems lately so she's had a stuffy, runny nose.
Even so, she managed to get hold of a bird before it could get away -
pretty impressive performance! That's the first time any of the Highland
kitties has caught a bird.

Nancy was able to get the bird from her and turn it loose.

I'm going to have to figure out some way to keep birds out of the yard. If
avian flu turns up in the US, I don't want any of the kitties getting to a
sick bird.

You could get bird netting. What a big hunter she is!

If you figure out how to keep birds out of your yard, please share the
information. Nanki-Poo has become a mighty hunter. He has dispatched
rats, the occasional mouse, and a lot of birds.

Once he kills the rats, he's finished with them. He disemboweled the
mouse and left it on my dining room floor. I was grateful that he
hadn't left it on the hall carpet, which is where he usually leaves his
kills.

If I can catch him with a live bird, I can usually rescue it. If not,
he eats them and really leaves a mess.

I don't mind his killing rodents. If I have to have a mouse or rat in
the house, I prefer it dead. However, it really bothers me that he
kills birds - especially lately when I found the remains of three baby
birds in the space of two days.

I'd love to keep the birds away.

Joy

Harri seems to be a very accomplished huntress!
