To Each his Own; Or A Tale of Two Boxes ;)
 

I've had two boxes lying around for the cats for about a week. Both
are nicely furnished with crumpled tissue paper. This is a special
treat because I can usually only tolerate one box at a time lying
around, so the cats have to take turns-- which they usually end up
doing without too much foofaraw (I've never used that word before! I
LIKE it!).

But when there were two boxes, each of them decided that BOTH of the
boxes must belong to him alone. I call this Box Imperialism, and my
gentle Stinky is a prime practitioner. He's become very adept at
sidestepping and defusing conflicts with Dante when he gets into
gangsta mode-- or just shutting him down with a well-placed bop.

But where BOXES are concerned, all bets are off.
ALL BOXES BELONG TO STINKY-- that's a rule. Stinky can be lolling in
his favorite places in the world-- my lap, or on whatever book I'm
trying to read-- purring up a storm-- but if Dante gets into a box
somewhere in the world, Stinky knows about it, and has to correct the
situation.

So this comedy goes on for days. A cat would get in a box- -- other
cat tries to bully him out of the box he's in, instead of just getting
into the other one. Or cat gets in OTHER box, and OTHER cat gets
out of FIRST box to chase cat out of . . . well, you get the idea.

I awoke this morning to the strange sensation of NO cats in bed with
me-- and looked around to see -- ONE CAT in EACH BOX. ONE CAT PER
BOX. Amazing that they finally worked that out. It took them a week.

Hi, My Ginger Meggs is top cat at home here, he has to do everything
first, food included, He is on a diet but trying to keep him away from
her bowl Princess' bowl that is, can be so frustrating. I love the
sound of the boxes with tissues, what a great idea. I am always
trying to think of something to amuse them with. Same with my dog
too. Jennifer.

I have a slightly different box problem. Boyfriend likes to use the big
outside and so did KFC until she forgot and now has to have a inside box. I
have to have two boxes, one downstairs and one upstairs in the bathroom.
She will only pee in the downstairs one and poo upstairs. Now why? I am
away all day working so both boxes are fairly private.

Actually, the answer to that one may not be quite so complex Tweed. It
is not uncommon for cats to prefer to have one box for #1 and one box
for #2 given the chance. My cats right now don't care, but before I had
three and three litter boxes, there was a definite preference for one
litter box being for pee and the other for poop. Just with three litter
boxes they don't seem to care anymore.

KFC is just being neat and tidy.

Yes, Frank and Nikki were like that, too. The current two use both boxes
for both. My sister's cats also use one box for pee and one for poo.

Sounds like Otis and Chester with scratching posts. That's why Chester will
forever scratch the bed and Otis while Otis knocks himself out protecting
