They've got bears up the wazoo in Jersey-- it's a constant problem.
THey recently reinstated an annual bear hunt. And just in the past
month, two unfortunate bears were shot for trespassing. They are
mostly young ones, who've just left their moms and are drawn to
people's garbage for an easy meal. It's all very distressing.

A friend of mine lives up in the mountains; her property leads into
national forest land. Anyway, last night a bear apparently got into
her shed and distributed her trash all around her two-acre lot.

The rules for the neighborhood require that all trash be kept in a
closed trashcan, inside a shed. She does have a bear-proof trash can,
but she said she got lazy about locking it down all the way. Oops.

I guess she'll be more careful in the future ...
