You all are some of my most long-time friends and have offered
encouragement and condolence when necessary and sympathy and even a
shoulder to cry on when necessary. You know some of my secrets as
well as not- so secret events in my life. So it seems only natural
that I would come to you first (after DH and the cats) to celebrate 6
whole months without smoking a cigarette. DH was going to take me to
Chops or Lobster Bar in downtown Altanta to celebrate but we had
events downtown that were estimated to bring over 100,000 people
downtown. We through we'd avoid that and went in the other direction
and celebrated at Bonefish Grill. We began our meal with bang bang
shrimp and I had a cup of lump crab and corn chowder. Ummm Ummm For
an entree I enjoyed Chilean Sea Bass with warm mango salsa and
potatoes au gratin. We waited until we got home for dessert since we
were both full. When I got home and rested a while I enjoyed a bowl
of peppermint ice cream. I couldn't have celebrated 6 months smoke
free any better. What was really exciting was having Lacey come visit
me and realizing the white of the fur around her neck is snowy white,
not tinged with yellow any longer.I realize every day will be a
challenge and I can never let my guard down. Cigarettes travel in
packs and you can't smoke one without smoking the pack and then the
rest of the family so I just won't. After 35 years I'm just happy to
believe I've left that habit behind.

Yep, that's what I learned the hard way - I had quit for 2 years once, and
for 5 years once, and both times, after smoking JUST ONE CIGARETTE, went
back to smoking a pack a day within a week. I've been quit this time for
4.5 years but I don't take it for granted and stop myself short if I even
find I'm just THINKING about smoking "just one".

Con-cat-ulations on your 6 month smoke-free anniversary!!!

Hugs,

CatNipped

Yay, Julie! That's so great! I quit 13 years, 9 months and 8 days ago.
If I can do it, you can! Like you, I know that if I smoked even one,
I would soon be back at 2-3 packs a day, so best not even think about
that first one.

What a feast, and how richly deserved! Purrs for your continued good

well, damn, Julie! That is wonderful news. I always
admire anyone who has the strength and determination
to give up something that may have become an addiction.
Good on ya for celebrating in such a nice way. God bless.

For me, the hardest part of quitting was the stupid TV ads for quitting! I
would be doing fine not even thinking of smoking, and then a dumb ad would come
on TV.
However, this ad is GREAT! -

Concatulations. Your celebration, lovingly described, sounds like it
pleased the inner kitty in you. Was there a kittybag for you to take
home?

CONGRATULATIONS, JULIE!

Just wondering, did you experience any of the nasty side-effects of the
Chantix that they're advertising (full disclosure, y'know)? It's not on
my HMO's formulary, but I could probably get the doc to write me a scrip
for it if it's out of my pocket.

Congratulations again,

Sam, supervised by Mistletoe

Congratulations Julie! I know its hard - BTDT - and I thought that the
craving would never go away. It has (it's been a long time) though and
I'll never go back! Good for you!
