Need help with Rexie and bathroom problems
HI guys. I haven't posted in forever, my part-time job has turned into
a monster, but at least I'm earning a little $$. I need HELP ! Some of you may remember, I have a 6 yr old male Siamese, Rexie, whom I've had since he was 3.5 weeks old. My baby. I'm his, he's mine. He had the kingdom to himself for 4 or so years, and then maMA and Loki came. There story is that 2 years ago, during a severe heat wave of 105 degrees for three weeks, a starving little female cat came to the porch. I gave her water and finally some food, We realized she was pregnant. We got her spayed, but she turned up two weeks later with a litter of five. I found homes for all but the boy [named, Loki]. Then his mama [now 'maMA' ]decided to stay. So we had three. They get along fine for the most part, cause Rex really doesn't pay them much mind. But he spits at mama and fights/plays with Loki. Loki is now over a year and as tall as Rexie, but not as bulky. Rexie usually wins in confrontations or jumps on me for sanctuary. The problem: This last month or so, Rexie has been periodically pooping or urinating not in his box. It's only happened about 10 times all together. Except for one time, he's done it in my computer room, under the desk or table. I've even changed litter boxes. We thought he was getting paranoid to go in there because Loki would jump on top of it and attack Rex on his way out! So I got a ckear one so Rex can see. I use a really good pet odor remover and have saturated the area with it. I'm sure with cats' sense of smell he can still smell it tho. I now have a plywood board cut to size under the desk and table, but this morning he urinated on the board! [So I just removed it, put another there inside a black garbage bag!] HELP !!! Before anyone answers, here's what we've done. First, took him to the vet to make sure there's nothing wrong. Keep the litter box pristine, and I mean, pristine. I scoop three times a day. I try to avoid the jealously thing by spending every free minute with Rex, and he does jump up and sleep with me at night. I've thought about another litter box, but I don't have the room. As I said, I'm doing the best I can with removing the odor, but . . . . Some of you have cats that are a little older, or who've had new roommates. Please! I'm counting on you guys to have good suggestions for me. At my wits' end, Rexie's mommy, ShirleyB |

One of my cats wouldn't set foot in a box used by the others, even though it was scooped 3 times a day. When I had 3 cats, I had 4 litter boxes and that solved the problem. I know you don't have room for another one, but it's worth trying to find a spot for another one, even if it's not in the best possible place (people-wise). Bobble |

Need help with Rexie and bathroom problems
I have three cats and two boxes. I added a shoebox size box in the dog
cage, their time out place and that one gets used a lot. They don't all three use the same box, like prissy cats I guess. "bobblespin" wrote in message ... " wrote in : HI guys. I love Rexie - he looks so soft. When I tried to integrate Dot, a 10 year old girl, and Buster, a 1 year old boy, I had pee and poop issues too with Dot. I got them four litter boxes of different types - covered, uncovered, shallow, deep, lipped, unlipped, with different brands of litter in different depths. Areas where Dot peed or pooped, I would replace with yet another litter box, block it off, or place aluminum foil. Another thing I did was make the area near the litter boxes inhospitable to hanging out. No soft places to sleep, no toys to play with nearby, so that Buster wouldn't be attracted to those areas, and they would normally be quiet. Repeated and refined over and over, Dot was finally steered consistently to the litter boxes, and there haven't been any accidents since. |

I'm afraid I only have the same advice others have given: more litterboxes. They say you need as many boxes as you have cats + 1. So with 3 cats, you need 4 boxes according to that theory. I've always had 2 cats and 2 boxes, and that works fine.. -- Marina, Miranda and Caliban. In loving memory of Frank and Nikki. Thanks, Marina, Takayuki, Grandy and Bobblespin for the suggestions. Your consensus seems to be getting at least one more litterbox. My hubby is confused, tho. He says that maMA and Loki have been with us over a year now, and this is just happening the last month, so . . . ? But I think I will dig the old litterbox out of the garage (it's in there somewhere, along with a buried treasure that I can't seem to find !! ) That might give me an indication. I'll keep you guys posted [literally]. Again, thanks for the advice. ShirleyB |

I'll agree with the others and suggest at least one more litter box. I
currently have 6 cats and 8 boxes (yes, it is a chore trying to keep them clean!) but that seems to work. You might also try putting Feliway diffusers in the rooms where Rexie spends most of his time, and for sure one in the room where he tends to litter inappropriately. If there are conflict issues that you aren't seeing, the Feliway diffuser can help reduce those tensions. Dan |

I know it was him because of the toxic smell [ nothing to do with current prob , it's always been toxic ]. Now should I leave the feces in there to establish that it's his, or keep it really clean? My instinct is to leave it. Thanks, Shirl |

Both for the other cats to keep away and for Rex to remember that he used it. Now let me reveal this deep, dark secret about my beautiful, dainty little Miss Mir: her waste also smells toxic. It's incredible how such gorgeous little creatures like your Rex and my Mir can produce such toxicity. -- Marina, Miranda and Caliban. In loving memory of Frank and Nikki. |
