IAMS - nutrients
I have finally received the nutrient analysis of Iams Original Formula
dry cat food and will share it here. Despite telling me they would only send the figures on a nutrient density basis, they provided the dry matter basis %. IAMS Original Formula Cat Food (Dry) Protein.................32.99% Fat.....................22.33% Crude Fiber..............1.63% Moisture.................7.01% Carbohydrate............30.14% Calcium..................1.06% Phosphorus...............0.94% Potassium................0.70% Sodium...................0.29% Chloride.................0.54% Magnesium................0.083% Linoleic Acid............4.07% Arachidonic Acid.........0.09% Metabolized Energy...4,483.00 kcal/kg Metabolized Energy...2,037.73 kcal/lb Density..................3.40 oz/c Ca:P ratio...............1.13:1 Taurine..................0.15% I find it curious the date at the bottom of the page is 1995. -- "Its the bugs that keep it running." -Joe Canuck |

Interesting. If the date on the page indicates the date the food was tested, it pretty worthless, they have changed the formula at least a couple times since then. I kind of doubt this is 1995 food however, since one of the changes IAMS finally made was to reduce calcium and phos in the foods and the levels above are today's levels. |

I just checked the sheet again. Handwritten at the very bottom is "2000" all by itself. Would that be around the time they changed the formula? Here is everything at the bottom of the page: "Copyright 1995 The Iams Company Dayton, Ohio USA 1-800-525-4267 5/15/95 2000" ---- this was the handwritten part. -- "Its the bugs that keep it running." -Joe Canuck |

That makes more sense. 2000 is probably a little closer. They make some subtle changes in the products pretty frequently, most changes are pretty meaningless, switching source of vitamin X or mineral Y for instance. |
