Suspicious of a numeric address, I first tried to ping 67.54.246.139 ,it

Now re-trying one day later, still no reponse.

The machine has a variable IP address and no name. It's a Windblue
account (satellite) and the up/down links are unreliable - DNS even more
so. Note that the server runs on port 9000 - that has to be included to
get a response. I run it on a non-standard port to cut down on the
spiders: they don't seem to look there for web servers.

they?

I can't post complete links in original messages (Individual.net blocks
them), only in replies: the comlete link is
http://67.54.246.139:9000/tdavis/misc.pictures/wildlife/coon_family.jpg

Jo,

When someone posts an incomplete link (such as "www.somplace.com") I hit
the "reply" button and then edit the text to put an "http://" in front of
it. Then it becomes a live link.

And then, if I feel like it (as in this situation with Ted's raccoon
pictures), I'm all set to post a reply. (If I don't need to post a reply,
I can just delete the reply message.)

One thing that kills a lot of attempts is that browsers tend to insert
"www" even when it doesn't belong.

Kits, or pups.

Oh, they are so cute! And almost round. Their mama is taking good care
of them.

Yes, it's unusual to see such a large family this late in the year.

The last time I saw the skunk family, there were four kits. I heard it's
been a good year for small wildlife.

In your case, I just stuck http:// in front of the IP address (and everything
that followed it). Worked fine.
