I'm hooome!
Last night when I got home, I did my usual "It's MEEE!" as I closed the door. Apache was right there and seemingly echoed me with a "Me-OOOOW!" I asked, "It's you?" to which she replied "Meow!" before turning around and trotting off. So I guess it WAS her. Apache is becomming quite the character. One or two other cats occasionally greeted me, but she's the only one who did it regularly. I always call out, "I'm home, kitties!" but neither Waffles nor Pickles moves an inch from wherever they are at the time. Joy |

With Frank and Nikki, I used to have to open the door very carefully, because they would be waiting right inside and their heads would pop right out as soon as I cracked the door open. I usually started hissing before I'd even put the key in the lock, to scare them away, but it didn't really work. I don't know what the neighbours thought about it. Miranda, the silly girl, nearly always runs and hides when I come home. Caliban usually comes to greet me, but he doesn't sit right inside the door like F&N did. He's lovely, though. He comes and blinks at me and insists on sniffing my hands and then headbutting them. 'Here, let me cover up all those foreign smells. You're MY human, you know.' -- Marina, Miranda and Caliban. Once they've done that they both look at me then run to the kitchen to get fed Lesley Slave of the Fabulous Furballs |

While Waffles and Pickles don't greet me when I come home, if I just go out into the garage for a few minutes, they're usually right there, trying to get out, when I come in. As I open the door, I say, "Ooga booga!" and they run for several feet before stopping, which gives me time to get inside and shut the door. Joy |

It reminds me of a story I heard or read once, might've even been here. Someone was saying that her cat had learned what the words "cat food" meant, so all she'd have to do is say those words, and he'd come running. It was the only he would respond to reliably. One day he went missing, and she went outside to look for him in the neighborhood. She went through yards, peering through fences and under bushes, yelling out "Cat food!" wherever she went. I can't imagine what people made of that. Miranda, the silly girl, nearly always runs and hides when I come home. 'Here, let me cover up all those foreign smells. You're MY human, you know.' Roxy and Licky are always at the front door when I come in. Roxy also gives me a thorough hand-sniff, which I interpret as her way of asking, "How was your day? Whatcha been up to?" Licky slinks around the furniture, rubbing against it flirtatiously, in the hope that I'll pet him. He's so coy. Of course, if I reach for him, he runs off. Joyce -- Fluffy Mackerel Pudding - "Once upon a time, the world was young and the words 'mackerel' and 'pudding' existed far, far away from one another. One day, that all changed. And then, whoever was responsible somehow thought the word 'fluffy' would help." -- Hilarious recipes at: www.candyboots.com |
