I'm around. I don't read the group (or even email) every day of the
week. I was just about to post something to the group, which I will do now.

I'm glad to see a few more posters than usual lately.

I forget everybody doesn't spend as much time checking as I do. Since
I'm retired, I check several times a day.

Yes, it's nice that there have been a few more lately. I guess that's
what made me notice the absence of posts.

Hopefully the ones who left for FB or whatever else will notice some
increased posts and come back. I'm not much interested in other social
media. Me, I never left. It did dwindle down to next to nothing for a
bit. But a few folks are coming back. I'm all for talking about our
cats! Our love of cats. And we are all old friends.

I never left here either. As you say, it does get quiet at times, but
there are still several of us who love talking about our cats.

Most youngsters using FB or other social media have never heard of
Usenet. They have no idea it was the first platform for "social media".
We created emoticons (now known as Imogies) using ASCII text and then
when GUI interfaces came along, actual images. Oh boy!

I'm still around. Not needing or wanting a phone to control my washing
machine from my car.

I really just want to talk about our cats.

I know what you mean. I have a cell phone, but it's for emergencies,
long distance and now, reluctantly, occasional texting. Because I use
it so seldom, I have the Go Phone plan, which costs $15 a month or, if
you pay by the year, $100 a year. From that, 10 cents a minute is
deducted for calls, and 20 cents is deducted for each text. Any balance
at the end of the year rolls over to the next year. I've never even
come close to a zero balance. It's cheaper to use for long distance
than my land line.

I still like newsgroups like this best for keeping in touch with people.
I've made a lot of friends through newsgroups, many of whom I've met
personally. In fact, one newsgroup friend, who was living in Reno when
i "met" her, now lives in the same city I do, and I see her once a month.

I also met and spent time with various newsgroup friends on my trips to
Australia. Remember Flippy and Yowie? I've met them both. I met all
three of the Daves, too.

Okay, that wasn't about cats, but it was about newsgroups and the people
who post on them. This newsgroup is still the best way to talk about
our cats.

I have nothing new to report. The hurricane missed us here in southern
Florida. Nipsy, Scooter, and Baby are well, and Marlo is still living
at mom's house. We just had mom's 90th birthday party. I'm happy to
read that most people and kitties are ok. I haven't read anything
about Mark though. I'll scan for something about him.

I do have something to announce. Most people wouldn't appreciate it....

OK, a bit of history, and excuse me if you remember this. After poor
Sammy died, too young and very fast from kidney disease, I went through
the usual "I can't bear to get another cat...well, maybe I'll just visit
the shelter" routine, and did eventually visit a shelter looking for a
companion for me and the rather plump and elderly Cinnamon. As a result
a skinny black short-haired young adult female moved in. It didn't go
well. I've introduced cats before, and I tried every trick I knew and
looked on the Internet for more. Cinnamon spent time living under the
loveseat, not wanting to leave even to get to the litter box. Kerry
started over-grooming, which of course triggered more vet visits and
trials of suggested cures. My apartment has an odd layout - long and
narrow. Eventually, I got Cinnamon established in the bedroom at one end
and Kerry in the living area at the other. Time passed. I was able to
leave the bedroom door open, and even move Cinnamon's litter box back in
the large closet - it's alleged to be a bedroom; it's a good size for a
couple of litter boxes, spare little, cat food (locked in a closet) etc.
Cinnamon was rarely seen outside her room; Kerry only went in there at
night (I think she got lonely).

Yesterday, I went to the bedroom to put away some laundry, and did a
double-take. Both cats were stretched out on the bed! Not next to each
other, but not one of them in the back of the closet and the other at
the food bowl, or sleeping on the laundry either.

It's only been a couple of years. If we all live long enough, they may
start cuddling!!

I'm glad you weren't hit by Hurricane Michael. Some of the images of
the Pensacola area and a place called Mexico City... total devastation.
Happy birthday to your mom! Hugs to all the cats.
