Default [OT] Age Appropriate Dress?

I'm watching "The View" and one of their "hot topics" was whether women
should stop wearing certain types of clothing as they get older (the

example
used was women who were over 40 shouldn't wear "Juicies" work-out clothes.
Someone said that *nobody* should wear sleeveless blouses or dresses if

they
have flabby upper arms (here in Houston where it sometimes gets to be 115F
with 2000% humidity this flabby-upper-armed MaMere *really* objects to

that
objection!).

What do you guys think? Should you not wear a mini skirt - even if you

have
killer legs - past a certain age?

Hugs,

CatNipped

I think people should be allowed to wear what they find comfortable and/or
what they feel looks good. Other people should be allowed to disapprove, as
long as they keep that disapproval to themselves.

I don't wear sleeveless tops, and never have, because I don't like them. I
haven't worn shorts in a couple of decades. But that's my choice, not
anybody else's business.

The one exception - I think women with killer legs should wear mini-skirts
if they feel comfortable wearing them, whatever their age. I'm a straight
70-year-old woman, but I appreciate beauty just as much as anybody does.
And when you see the legs on some people who wear shorts or mini-skirts,
it's almost an obligation for women with beautiful legs (and men with good
legs) to display them. ;-)

I pretty much agree with Joy. 'Nipped has a great bod for her age and is a
living
testimonial for the major surgery she opted for.....'Nipped, you wear
whatever
you please! Just a few things I'd like to point out:
In the state I come from originally, people wear stuff year-round (as little
as
possible) that would surely get them arrested in my present surroundings
for indecent exposure, at very least. What's cool in one area is AAAAAK!
in another (in USA).
There are several major religions which frown on or even forbid sleeveless
tops on female faithful (as well as "low-cut" or God help us,
"belly-displaying".
I often wondered, wandering around malls and stores in my home state, if
the older chicks displaying whatever had full-length mirrors at home would
they still have gone out of the house with *that* on?
And with my usual snide sarcasm, I leave you with this comment:
When the older, hair-covered, sweaty men in year-round warm areas
quit going topless altogether and wearing skimpy tank tops to shop,
especially
"dine out" (urk, can you imagine sitting at the next table?) and generally
parade
their pork in public, THEN AND ONLY THEN will I carefully examine my
chosen attire before leaving the house. I also often wonder if my cats - if
they'
were able - would LOL at some of my outfits, especially the "full
orange-and-blue"
regalia seen recently during playoff weeks.....

I learned that after hitting the big 5-0 that comfort takes a back seat
to fashion. For me anyway. I wear overalls with galluses about every
day, and Reeboks. . I can't stand anything around my waist after the
surgery. I can't stand anything on my bod except 100% cotton either. I
still dress appropriately when I leave the house. But only because I
have to. I don't like it!

You know, years ago I worked with a guy who told me once that
he wore/bought only cotton clothes and would tolerate only "natural"
(this was long before "organic" became popular) fabrics next to his
bod. I thought that was a little strange, but could totally relate to what
he said, in *reverse*.......I have never, since childhood, been able to
tolerate silk, silk-like, nor slick acrylic cloth on my skin. No reason.

Depends whether you give a sh!t about the first impression you make on
strangers. in 115F degree heat, I couldn't give two hoots about how I look,
as long as I'm as comfortable as possible.

That being said however, there are certain styles of clothing that just
plain don't suit particualr body types and/or ages. I have a definitate
*belly* and therefore would never wear low rider jeans and a crop top. But
i"ve seen women my age and my weight wearign them. I think it looks *gross*
and they certainly don't make agood impression on me,but if thats what they
want to wear, then it shouldn't be up to me to decide for them.

I guess it all depends on how honest people wish to be when looking at
themselves in the mirror :-) I don't like dressing like a hooker, but if
thats what other people want to do (and be treated accordingly) then thats
their business.

Bravo, Sandra. =o)

I say, if a person has good legs and a good figure and feels confident
enough, the miniskirt is up to them, even if they're 75, if it's
appropriate for the occasion. There is the concept of "mutton dressed
as lamb" but if a person wants to make themselves look ridiculous,
they're the ones who will have to live with the embarrassment, not me.
Self-confidence and a good figure will allow some people to carry off
an outfit that might really look horrible on another person. For formal
wear, I'd say, leave the miniskirt at home. I personally would not
inflict me in a mini skirt on any other living creature, but that's
just me. When it's ninety in the shade, I'm darned well going to wear
shorts and short sleeves around my home, and anyone who objects is out
of luck.

I certainly wouldn't want Tina Turner to wear 'granny clothes'. That woman
is *hot* and I say so from a strictly hetero viewpoint. If I looked *half*
as good as she does at her age I'd think I was doing really well (heck,
looking half as good as her *now* would be an improvement)

People should be able to wear what they like, though as they get
older it's
preferable they wear something. ;-)

Could wrinkles be classed as 'something' ? ;-)
