There Goes Rhymin' Simon (hiding cat)
I picked up the 9yo Siamese male yesterday. It was not a good adventure
getting home but I'll leave the story for later. Simon will purr if he's cornered but otherwise he's reluctant to be seen. His owner died 3weeks ago and he's been in a cage at the vets until yesterday. The first mistake I made was to let him out of the carrier in my bedroom and go get food. Well, he is eating but only if I'm not in sight. And speaking of not in sight... he ain't. One hidey-hole was behind a box in the closet. I'll post a pic of that but the other hidey-hole? Well, I looked for an hour off and on. Squirrels playing on the roof didn't help, had me figuring how Simon coulda gotten through the access hole. When I needed a new roll of TP, mystery solved! In the cabinet under the sink. I'd seen cats at the Humane Society pull that stunt, shoulda guessed instead of looking in a hundred impossible places. Thrice. Norm -- There Goes Rhymin' Simon album, words & music by paul simon: When i was a little boy, (when i was just a boy) And the devil would call my name (when i was just a boy) I'd say "now who do, Who do you think you're fooling?" Norm Poor fellow is probably traumatized. I can wait for pics because I want him to get comfie. I hope he really fits in and at least he will be loved. That will bring him around eventually. |

He feels a lot bonier than only 9yo, and the vet said they were feeding him a large can a day! He is a purrer and a talker but that's what we love about Siamese. I came back from today's bikeride and gave him some more food in the closet. When I went back in 30min he had finished it and was in the late afternoon sun. Accepted lots of attention and touched noses. I left the door open while I got more food and he was ready to come out but changed his mind and ran under the bed. Left the food and came back to post pictures (Rhymin' Simon). I'm sure he'll settle in quickly. I hope. I'll be away next weekend and he needs to be settled and happy or I won't trust him with the catdoor. The females may hiss and spit a bit but that should be about it. Willie should be gentlemanly after one "it's my house" hiss. Quinn would be in character if he greets him wih a full body rub. In a couple hours we'll see. Norm PS: Oh. The adventure. In the Port Jervis underpass the car completely died, no electrics at all. Battery connections tight. It was warmish and, after calling AAA, a good samaritan took me and the carrier to the tow base where I waited for the truck & car to appear. Dropped at my garage but, damn, Alex wasn't there. I had a car inside for service but couldn't get to it. Truck gave me a lift down to the light where I walked to the taxi base. One cab, out on two calls. Walked back to the light and tried to hitch with no luck. Back o tax base and wait. From there it got better. The driver loves animals and was mighty impressed with Simon and his story and told me "I make stuff for friends and neighbors. I have a cat bed at home, I want you to have it. I'll bring it to you Wednesday". No, please, I'll come get it. OK, but when he got to my house and saw all the "classic" cars he recanted. "I'll bring you the bed Wednesday. My wife will want to see this!" Willie came down to give him a big welcome then, with Simon talking, I rotated the carrier so Willie could see Simon. He came over and they sniffed noses, very polite, no shrinking or hissing. A good start! -- "In 2005, the refining margin...has exceeded $20 per barrel, far above the long-term average of $6. That has meant record profits for oil companies and refiners" NYT 2005/09/11 |
