This is Piglets slave, Gramby. My son had a calico cat come to his
house.
He took it to the vet for surgery and shots etc. This cat was more

vocal
than Piglet but since comming home she doesn't make a sound. I held

her
today and she would open her mouth like she was going to talk but,

not
a
sound came out. The vet is gone for two days. It is just weird that

such
a
vocal cat could suddenly become so quiet.

What was the surgery and the etc? Was it the first time the calico had
this done to him,

I mean her

whatever it was. More detail please. I'll pass this
question on to our local Humane Society once you reply.

The answer so far is that maybe the problem is post-operative pain.
Cats hide pain by being quiet, which serves them well in the wild.
It should go away in a week. Don't worry too much unless she is still
quiet when the spay wound is healed.

Very likely. It may also be a reaction to the shots, some fatigue or sick
feeling. I too think it should go away soon.

I have had a tube for stomache stuff and since they cannot tell a cat to
swallow the tube, (they try that with humans, but in one case they sprayed
so much anesthetic on my throat I couldn't swallow: So they just shoved it
through my voacal chords -- it was a week before the pain subsided when I
swallowed) I eventually went to a naturopath and things went much better.
They should use a mask! It's much less painful for the cat.

[Human typing] I'm a little late on replying to this one, but having
had two surgeries in a year, I can relate to this. When one (animal or
human) is anesthetized, one is "intubated" for a variety of reasons -
to make certain that one's airway is open and also so that one doesn't
choke on one's own vomit, etc. - it's a valid and necessary safety
precaution, and does not replace a mask.

They basically spray your throat with a topical, then push it down
and I had a sore throat for *weeks* after each surgery.

This may explain her silence, but I would take her to the vet if she
doesn't meow in a few more days...

Hope she's feeling better soon!

Piglet thinks I need to line up at stormmees house to get my nails clipped
the name was supposed to be O, T. Mahoney not Hahoney. I had the girl wrap
the kitten in a hand towel and brought the towel home to get Piglet used to
the scent of the Kitten.
She kept looking under the towel. The O T thing is because the girl kept
calling the kitten the Orange Thing, it looks so different from the rest of
the litter.

My two Grandaughters and I would like to thank all of you for the
encouragement about the cat. It all makes sense and she is still really
social so long as you don't go near her scar. I am sure things will be
fine, it just upset me because she was so quiet and I hollered Help before I
thought it out. Thanks for your help.

LMTO... T, T, TV and OEJ... you guys remind me of when I took little
tiny baby cat Onyx to my parents' house after I first got him. Our
family d*g was still alive at that time. Onyx, being all of about 2-3
months old at that point, was VERY tiny. Granted, Alfalfa (the d*g)
wasn't a big d*g (he was a schnoodle), but he was definitely bigger
than Onyx at this point.

ANYWAY, we brought Onyx upstairs to roam around, and brought the d*g
in from outside (we wanted Onyx to at least get in the house without a
lot of ruckus from dear old d*g). Lo and behold, when Onyx saw
Alfalfa for the first time, he hissed at the d*g! It was probably the
first time Onyx EVER hissed at ANYTHING in his young life, but it was
freakin' hysterical. Poor d*g didn't know WHAT to think after that...

U.B. ~ Dat'z beclawz I showed dat stoopid liddle d*ggie hoo wuz da
boss!!!
