[OT - but barely] BABY OTTERS!!
"Bastette" wrote in message ... Not cats, but they might as well be! http://sonic.net/~jwermont/misc/animals/awwtters.jpg -- Joyce How sweet! I live on a chain of islands surrounded by salt marshes. One day I was driving off the island and this crittercame out of the rushes and flippered across the road. My first thought was, "Is that a seal?" Then I realized no, we don't have seals in South Carolina. It was a river otter! I'd heard of them but never seen one before. It was adorable! Its fur was very sleek shiny as it was wet from swimming I'd never seen any type of otter in the wild, only at the zoo back in Tennessee. It was a real treat. Jill |

Yep, they will bite you as soon as look at you but that's because they are a wild animal. That does not make them mean and nasty as such. It's important for them to be mean and nasty and bite otherwise they would not survive. Otters are slowly returning to British rivers. Luckily my nearest river is a mile and half away. They can be predators of poultry. Tweed |

But the danger isn't in that... the danger is that humans see them and have the reaction awwww, look how cute, then try to pet them (yeah, people are idiots) and end up getting a few fingers bitten off (hey, they can open clams with those teeth and jaws). -- Hugs, CatNipped See all our masters at: http://www.PossiblePlaces.com/CatNipped See the RPCA FAQ site, created by "Yowie", maintained by Mark Edwards, at: http://www.professional-geek.net/rpcablog/ Email: L(dot)T(dot)Crews(at)comcast(dot)net |

Anyway, the otters in this photo are babies, so I wouldn't be afraid of them, except maybe to wonder what sorts of viruses or parasites they might be carrying. -- Joyce There is no alternative to being yourself. |
