Tuna question
"jmc" wrote in message ... Suddenly, without warning, Phil P. exclaimed (10/25/2011 5:00 PM): wrote in message ... I know that tuna as a primary part of a cat's diet is a very bad thing... however, is a bit of tuna added to a cat's regular diet of canned food harmful? I ask 'cause I'm still having trouble getting Meep to eat consistently, but she'll eat anything that I put about half a tablespoon or so of tuna in. FWIW, we retested her the other day, and she has an infection (one vet says bladder, another says kidney), instead of kidney failure as the previous blood tests seemed to indicate. My specialist vet opines that she's in Stage 1 renal insufficiency - stage 4 is CRF... Anyway - is a little tuna twice a day, mixed in with normal canned cat food, harmful? jmc Just make sure its tuna packed in water not oil. 'Hope she feels better. Phil Of course, thanks Phil. I'm a bit worried about the sodium content, but I can't afford to continue to do what I just did - buy the really expensive low sodium tuna... I mixed it with El Cheapo stuff to lower the sodium content of the cheap stuff... she doesn't seem to care jmc Do whatever it takes to keep her eating. If she likes a fishy taste, try squirting some omega-3 fish oil (from salmon or menhaden) on her food. Ask your vet about Pepcid AC - 1/4 of a 10 mg tab. She might be getting a little queasy. If that doesn't help, ask him about cyproheptadine (Periactin) 1/8 - 1/4 of a 4 mg tab. That might help jump start her appetite. Make sure you keep her potassium level in the upper half of the normal range. Good luck. |

We've TNRd the neighborhood so we only picked up one new cat and aim to get that one, but he/she is very skitish. |

Vet tried her on something that melts, and that worked better so I'm asking for some more tonight. I forget the name but it works on nausea at the brain level. jmc |

Yea, we did that for her tramadol for a while. I'll ask about that for the anti-nausea though, thanks for the tip. jmc |
