Oh Matt, this is horrible. I would go Fridy and confirm it all again.
Damn...nothing more just Damn.

Well yet again the idiots at my doctors office screwed up again. So no
sleep study tonight

I called to make sure what time to be in there tonight if I had to be
there at 8:30 or before. Now they confirmed everything yesterday
afternoon 24 hours in advance. The girl tells me well ummm I forgot
to call the tech so he won't be here tonight. He can be here Friday I
said no Monday thru Wednesday nights only the rest of the time I am on
call that says it in my file.

We can schedule you to go down there tomorrow she tells me. Their office
is in Fort Lauderdale a 4 hour trip each way with perfect traffic. I
said ok when can I come buy and pick up the money for the gas. No answer
she says well we can get you in next Monday. So now I got to wait
another week again

I love my doctor to death but he hires idiots. If they ain't losing
blood work and paper work. They conveniently forget to do things or have
the wrong file out when you go into see the doctor

I am not a big one to cuss but sometimes you just have to say something. I
think Matt should yell to the roof. Good Doctors should not let their
staff, as in this case, get away with messing with people. I don't know
Matt all that well but, this has to be really stressful for him.

Wow, that's some major incompetence. Although I'm stunned that she
admitted honestly that it was her fault!

The paediatrician assigned to Cary when he was born [1] was also a
sleep specailist. When we went to see him for Cary's six week
check-up, he said he suspected Cary had sleep apnoea and had to go
for a sleep study. So in we went to the hospital, he got al hooked
up, and when the results came back, lo and behold apprantly yes,
Cary had sleep apnoea. Although the paeditrican/sleep specialist got
really strange when I wanted to look at hte results myself. He moved
them out of my sisght and said something along the lines of "you
aren't a doctor, you wouldn't understand".

And if I had been the patient, I'd have got up and walked out then and
there.

But I know how intimidating they can be to new mom's who tend to worry
very easily.

How dare he take advantage of that!

I hear you.

Right now I'm waiting for a call back from my Dr's office. Trying
to find out why the prescription request that needs to be faxed to
my mail order pharmacy that I hand carried to them a week ago was
never sent, and the other RX request that was called in by my
pharmacy last week was never acknowledged.

They are scrambling to find the information because I told them I
want an appointment to see the doctor so I can get those three
prescriptions handled, and he is going to be totally ****ed when he
finds me in there for an office visit just for paperwork they didn't
do. They do not like days when the doctor is ****ed.

Jo

Amazing how quickly they found the form and faxed it to my pharmacy
after I called. They never did call me back though.

[snip story about greedy git doctor ]

bothered to take Cary back to that idiot again. I can only suspect that
either a) he was just a greedy git or b) needed some control subjects -
after all, no mother in their right mind would put their baby (and
htemselves by default) through a sleep study just 'for the good of science'.

I vote for "a". He probably had a good racket going with the "sleep alarm"
company, too. Those companies (along with pharmaceuticals) drop into medical
practices day and night hawking their junk - er, medicine and equipment.
(Just ranting - I know a lot of this stuff saves lives, but doctors are
so "kept" by the pharm industry!)

[1] I was at the hospital, about 10 minutes after giving birth, when some
git with a form came in "and who is your paeditrician". "I don't have one,"
I said. "You should have," said he, incredulously. "Why would I have a
paeditrician when up until 10 minute ago I didn't have any children?" "Oh".

Purrs on the way Matthew that you get everything straightened out and
are able to participate in the sleep study and get on the right track
for good sleep.

I asked my obstrician to recommend one. Then again, I didn't like my obs
that much either.

This is something I've mentioned before. Perhaps because I've lived most
of my life in smallish populations areas, I've never heard of anyone
local using a pediatrician as a primary care doctor for a child, any
more than a woman would use a ob/gyne for primary care. You go to the
ob/gyne (or take your child to a pediatrician) if there is some special
reason - you're pregnant (and your GP, like most today, doesn't do
deliveries, or does but there are complications) or the child has
something wrong that's puzzling the GP.

I know the rationale behind using specialists for routine primary health
care, but it still seems odd to me, like using an elephant gun to kill a
mosquito.

In the UK, we attend our general practitioners for primary care and only see
a specialist if the GP thinks we need to

That's the case here, too. Lingering British influence, perhaps? G
Having a GP is important since most if not all specialists won't see new
patients who have not been referred by a GP or turned up in a hospital
ER. Unfortunately, in some areas there is a shortage of GPs and some
people go to drop-in clinics where they may see a different GP each
time. (Or 'family practise doctor', which isn't technically the same
thing here - FP doctors have more training than the old-fashioned GP who
probably had a year of internship after medical school).

I really like my own GP, and hope she doesn't retire until after I no
longer need her. I always feel that we work on the specialist thing
together, although to be honest, I don't generally request a specialist
on my own (since I HATE spending time in waiting rooms and am generally
pretty healthy, thank God), but when she says 'I'd like a specialist
to look at this, do you have one you'd prefer to see?' I tend to ask for
her recommendation and follow it. So in the end, I guess, it comes down
to me seeing a specialist when she thinks I should!
