Lois gave me the following the game http://www.freerice.com/index.php she
knows I love word games. I did discover a new word - grimalkin
(can I hear the whisper of dictionary pages, hehe) or perhaps I am doing all
you brainy types an injustice, I know I had to look it up .

Tried it for a couple of minutes and made a 300g donation of rice...

I used to know what that word meant, because someone I knew had that as
her email name. Of course, I have totally forgotten...

Ah ha! (Just looked it up.) However, you wouldn't have heard "the whisper
of dictionary pages," but rather, the click-click-click of computer keys,
accessing dictionary.com.

And here it is:

Grimalkin:
1. a cat.
2. an old female cat.
3. an ill-tempered old woman.

Remembering this old email friend (we met once, but mostly corresponded
over email because she lived far away), I think the name fits, a bit.
She wasn't particularly old or ill-tempered, at least not with me, but
perhaps with others. But she sure was a cat-lover. She used to regale me
with tales of all her rescue kitties.

A *week*??? Let's see... I've been playing Bubbels since 2004 I think,
so I'm quite sure I've accumulated more hours than just one week's worth.
And I'll bet the same is true for you, too.

Yes, its true.

And, like a sucker, I clicked anyway. And was subsequently late for work.
But I did manage to donate over a kilo of rice, and had a maximum vocabulary
rating of 46 (average 42) without cheating.

So, does this go on forever or what? You just keep clicking? I guess there's
no way to win or lose. I notice that when you get a word wrong, it will ask
you that word again a few rounds later, before you have a chance to forget
what the real meaning is. It was fun trying to guess the meaning of words
I didn't know. But I finally got sick of playing at 2360 grains.

So does the UN really donate rice when you get a word right? That's pretty
cool.

Grimalkin: a cat

You just put up the URL for my version of bubbles. 3200 grains or rice and
I haven't left the site yet.

DAMN YOU BEV. You are evil and insidious.

That's the most vocabulary fun I've had in a long time. Mostly from
reading very dated English novels I suspect.

Charlie was looking over my shoulder, and was of the opinion they were
making words up, only I kept getting them right.

Not that there is anything wrong with his vocabulary, just it doesn't tend
toward the archaic.

Jo
