Purrs that all goes well and when they meet they get to like each other. It will probably be good for Pickles to have a companion and it will be good for you to have another kitty, which is important too. Good Luck. Judith Thanks, Judith. Koala is still staying in his carrier whenever I look in on him, but he has eaten and used the litter box, so I know he's okay. I have an appointment to have my vet check him Monday afternoon. After he's recovered from that I'll try to get him out of the carrier. Until then I'll leave him alone. For one thing, he won't feel threatened. For another, it will be easier to get him to the vet if he's already in the carrier. ;-) Pickles has only given the intruder alert twice, both yesterday. Today she expressed great interest when I was about to go into the room where he is, so I waited until she had given up. It isn't time for them to meet yet. However, I saw that as a good sign. Yes, I think it will be good for both of us, although I suspect he may bond to her before he bonds to me. I was told he's "still a little feral" and not used to people. Eventually I'm sure he'll come around. As long as he and Pickles get along, I can wait. Joy -- Joy Unlimited Colorful Crocheted Critters Photos at http://www.PictureTrail.com/joy9 Perhaps get down to his level on the floor, near the carrier and have cat-chats with him? For him to get used to you, and bond a bit? Drop a few treats into the carrier? HTH Sylvia That's a good idea. It remains to be seen whether I can do it. Oh, I can probably get down on the floor, but getting up might be a bit of a problem. I'm a bit older than he is - about 78 years older. ;-) Joy That's in human years, I believe. They are metal tubing. they work as just the "push-up' I need.,,ya think this would help? Sylvia It might if you send it to me. G If worst comes to worst, I might put the crate up on the bed. Tomorrow afternoon he sees the vet for his checkup. Joy -- Joy Unlimited Colorful Crocheted Critters Photos at http://www.PictureTrail.com/joy9 |

I think that slightly feral cats will always be slightly feral. He will bond to you, but will probably disappear every time someone else comes in the house. Two of mine are like that. They do appreciate the presence of the significant other, but they're really only happy with me. Mostly they appreciate SO if I'm away and they want to be fed. |

Nevertheless, I got him mainly because I think she needs a companion. He's only been here a few hours. It remains to be seen whether she will continue to not want him. I do hope she takes to him eventually, it would lovely for her to have another companion but as you said before, she only ever knew Waffles as they were hand reared. I was a good idea to get a young male, at 4 months old he will still look a bit like a kitten, not enough like an adult to be a threat - maybe her maternal instincts will kick in like KFC's probably did when she saw Boyfie. Although he was around 8 months (guesstimate), he was enough of a leggy kitten for her to be kind. If it works that way for cats like it does dogs; very few adult dogs will attack an unknown puppy no matter how annoying they might be. Something stops them. Lots of luck with the integration. Tweed Thank you. He had his vet exam today, and passed with flying colors. He got the shots he hadn't gotten, and actually let me pet him while he was on the table at the vet's. That's the first time I've touched him since I brought him home. I'm to wait 7 more days to make sure he shows no signs of illness picked up at the shelter, and then I can introduce them. -- Joy Unlimited Colorful Crocheted Critters Photos at http://www.PictureTrail.com/joy9 |

We went to the vet today because his adoption came with a coupon for a free vet exam within three business days. I had to pay for the shots and tests, but he came through just fine. It isn't only slightly feral cats that disappear every time someone else comes in the house. Pickles does that, and so did Waffles, and they were bottle-raised. I had another cat that did that too. And then there was Lindy, who thought everybody who entered the house had come to see her. Joy -- Joy Unlimited Colorful Crocheted Critters Photos at http://www.PictureTrail.com/joy9 |
