Fire purrs
We need to purr for all the cats and d*gs (and other animals) who might be
lost or injured in the forest fires in BC. Some of you might have heard the city of Kelowna, B.C. (where I was born, actually) is being threatened and burned by forest fire. Over the past day and night, approximately, 200-300 homes have been destroyed there. And there are fires all over the place in that area of BC, threatening many towns. If you guys could send out some purrs for the animals not to be too spooked to run away from their slaves, and stay with them and be evacuated from the fire, I'm sure they would be appreciative. In watching the news, I've heard of quite a few cats who have been spooked and have escaped and ran off. To animals in the interior, our fur-pocket cats are sending you many purrs to not-spook and evacuate safely. Yes, I just read about this in the news. We are purring and praying that
people and animals in the area do not become victims. And we pray for the souls of any that do. Here is a link to the SPCA in the area who are one of the shelters dealing
with the big animal shelter crisis there http://www.spca.bc.ca/media/KelownaF...2003_Press.htm There is an appeal to Vancouver residents to help house the animals, because they're trying to transfer the animals there. Jen. |

Here is word from KLC Krista, who is located in Kelowna (this message not
sent to me directly, but I'm posting this for another friend!) She wanted to send a message to you guys, which is pasted below: ==== routed message ==== Thank you so much for remembering! I've had such a year and lost touch with RPCA but not forgotten you wonderful cats'n'folks. We, personally, are on evacuation alert. The Kelowna SPCA was evacuated yesterday (Friday Aug 22), initially to a local recreation centre, and now animals have been fostered out into homes all over the place north of us, out of harms way. Trailers & trailers of horses have been taken to safety out of rural areas. The cats were the biggest challenge, though! It sounds as if at least 400 had to be fostered - quite a feat. Because we are on evacuation alert & could get the order to GO at any time, we can't foster any animals ourselves. If the order comes, we will be packing four cats (Polaris, Twinkle-Afar, Jubilee, and Harley Davidson) and one bearded dragon (Mnemie) into our car and heading out of town. It's scary, but so far no loss of life; no major injuries. Last night we could see flames shooting hundreds of feet into the sky, among black clouds, along the ridge. It looked ready to boil down on us. Today the sky is blue for the first time in three days. You could paste this note to RPCA for me, if you have a chance? I really shouldn't be on the computer too much. My RPCA t-shirts are already packed as essential in case of evacuation ^..^ KLC Kelowna BC Canada kristac at shaw dot cee eh -- =============================== jen.dehaan = the internet's dunderhead www.ejepo.com www.flash-mx.com |

This is one big fire and without rain and a severe reduction in winds this could get a lot worse. Larry Osborne |
