I love hearing about Spicey. She has come a long way from the cat who sent you to the doctor from scratches. She's settled down into a comfortable routine. She will actually still bite if I try to excessively meddle with her, but she's definitely more tolerant than before. |

I've always thought, though, that Spicey's difficulties stem from Suz not being able to handle her at all for 9 years which made her almost a feral cat living in a house. KFC was difficult, I've had difficult dogs that no one else would take on and been successful with, but I'm not sure I'd have kept Spicey if I had to dangle myself off the staircase like you had to to avoid being slashed to bits. One thing about Spicey is that you don't necessarily have to be sensitive to know her moods, because she has physical ways of letting you know her moods. |

Kitty would slash if she got annoyed but not enough to make me worry about putting me in hospital. She was a real grump with a bad temper. Boyfie is completely different. He has no temper and is always charming with me. If I got another cat, I would choose a boy, purely because my girl cat had a bad temper and my boy cat is kind and gentle. |

Persia was definitely a most gentle girl. She most definitely was. There was only one time she scratched me really badly (she still had her back claws, and a pox on the person who front declawed her). It was my fault. We were sleeping and she had rolled over on her back next to me. I was sort of half awake. I stretched my hand out felt that soft belly fur under my fingers... She wrapped her front paws around my arm bunny-kicked the underside of my forearm with her back claws. Ripped me to shreds. That'll sure wake you up! OUCH! I got up and washed the wounds in hydrogen peroxide. I probably posted a link to a picture of it back then (it would have been in 2001, I guess). That was when Webshots was still a viable photohosting site. Now that pic is on a CD along with all my other old Webshots pics. Zipped format. Not easy to find a single photo but you get the picture, I'm sure. Jill |

It's all about whether you can tolerate a dog breaking into your fridge and oven and cupboards and eating everything in there. I tolerated it. Because she'd been lost, and on the streets. She could take a tin from my cupboard and know what was in it. She didn't bother with fruit, only tins with meat in and then open them with her teeth. She was a challenging dog to have, but would have defended me with her life and often said of a visitor either 1. You seem nice, normally she would be fine with everyone or 2. I don't like you and get the f out of here or you'll get bitten. She was never wrong about that. |
