Default Meowmie tried to be one of US!!

I gots to peeking on the compewter when Meowmie isn't looking and on
the night when everyone celebrates the Mew Year, she was out ALL
NIGHT!! Even though she fed us dinner early we were STARVING!

How DARE she come home at 3 am? But she fed us some more so I forgave
her.

Then she hooked up the little gray flashy thing that she points at us
when we're just minding our own business to the compewter and these
pics came up on the screen.

Meowmie was dressed up as a LION!!!!

Or at least something that looked like a lion. There was hardly any
fur and the eyes were way too big and the mouth was open. And Meowmie
was holding the head and dancing around.......;WHat a weird looking
thing!!!?

Hoomins, I just don't understand them.....

Mayhem

My fire performance troupe got to be part of the entertainment at the
big New Year's Ball in Hollywood.

I didn't get a chance to spin fire, long story for another time, but I
DID get to do something else I've been training on with this troupe.

Chinese Lion Dancing.

I wear furry leggings and carry the big lion head that weighs about 15
pounds. One hand holds the frame and the other also controls the
mouth. There are strings inside the head controls the eyes and ears.
Meanwhile someone behind me also wearing leggings is hunched over
being the back end.

I was part of the parades that would show up during the evening with a
bunch of musicians.

BTW, dancing around carrying a big lion head isn't easy. You can't
really see except when you open the mouth a bit, and you have to be
aware of your surroundings. Not to mention you are also jumping and
dancing at the same time.

I did three parades that night and was thoroughly exhausted. But it
was a lot of fun. I had a lot of pictures taken of me. I did manage
to hand off my camera to a friend to shoot some pics.

Here they are......

Yes technically its not Chinese New Year yet, but it's still a New
Year symbol and not to mention really cool looking.

My troupe is getting ready for our Chinese New Year show now. I'll be
dancing with my folding fans for that one. But I still like Lion
Dancing. I hope to keep training so I can get a little better at it.
It's really hard to try to hold the head with both hands AND move the
eyes and ears too. Ah well, no one could tell the difference....

But Mischief and Mayhem cocked their heads at the picture of me and
had a "WTF?" look. hehehehe

Take care,

Kristi

Wow. I'm impressed.

I love Lion dancing. We have an annual Bok Kai parade in Marysville where
we honor the Chinese water god and ask for protection from floods. We have
a really nice dragon and the local Air Force base provides dancers for the
dragon. But the lion dancers and other performers usually come up from the
Bay Area for the parade and the weekend festivities.

I can't even imagine how much strength and energy it took for the parades.

That's a really cook thing to do! I suspect it's both fun and exhausting.
You obviously have a lot of talents I didn't know about.

BTW, I wouldn't have known it was a lion if you hadn't told me, so don't be
too hard on the people who think it's a dragon. It isn't colored like any
lion I've seen. ;-)

heheh for me its actually Gung Hay Fat Choi, since I'm Cantonese.

Oh and I found out at Xmas when I told my 90 year old grandfather that
I was learning Lion dancing he told me he used to TEACH lion dancing
to the Boy Scouts in Chinatown back in the 1950s.

Talk about coming full circle........

I sent him pictures and I got a voicemail from my dad. My grandfather
was SOOOO proud to see the photos.

I can just imaging how great that makes you feel. How great he must feel
as well. To have that connection and to find out about it while he is
still around to appreciate it. There are just so few things we can as
adults do that is really true to our nature and that we know is also much
appreciated by our elders.

Its such a blessing when it happens.
