That was around the first time I saw KFC as a youngish cat. She was
perching on top on my chicken huts doing some mousing in the early morning.
I still had my lurcher Trim who helped me with my chicken chores and chased
Kitty up a tree every day. Trim would kill any cat but was completely
disarmed when KFC came up to her one day and wound herself round her legs.
They became friends after that.

Ahh, that's a sweet memory Tweed. Sounds like Shelby and my outside
cats (she used to chase 'em). Now she's blind, and they 'guide' her
around the rose bushes and stuff she might bump into and get hurt.
They take care of each other, it seems.

My heart is still aching for KFC and it's aching for you as well.

That's so sweet. I guess she didn't show her fierce claws of death to
everyone.

BTW, I'm assuming a "lurcher" is a dog breed? (Haven't heard of them -
maybe they go by another name in the US.)

Not a breed, but a type of dog, see:

Oh, got it - like a retriever, a herder, that kind of thing?

Not on this side of the pond. Retriever & lurcher are very different dogs.

No, I just meant that "retriever" and "herder" were two examples of dog
type, as opposed to a breed. Well, I was asking if that's what "type" means.

They are crossbreeds (mutt in American English). Crossed with
"sighthounds" (dogs that hunt by sight and speed, rather than using
their noses like most American Retrievers do) rather than scent hounds
smile.

I personally want that one that was Greyhound/Deerhound/Collie, or
maybe the Greyhound/Terrier. Those are pretty dogs with the sweetest
eyes.
