Tiger = Houdini

I was walking Tiger around the neighborhood a couple nights ago. He
loves this - and until a year or so ago we couldn't find a leash he
would endure. He would spit and fight and finally hide any time we
tried to get a collar on him.

So I found a simple string harness, and he has no problem with it!
However, it's not extremely secure, but he's always so placid it's
never been a problem.

Anyway, on our walk he must have spotted a cat or a vole or something,
and leapt away from me. I gently but firmly held the leash, and
"walked it in" so I could get ahold of him. He did one deft flip and I
was standing there holding an empty leash.

He started to run away, but I don't think he realized he was free - or
else he was so stunned he forgot why he was fleeing. That gave me
enough time to grab his huge bushy tail and corral him.

I can't for the life of me figure out how he got out .. and got out so
quickly. But I would have loved to see a slow motion replay of that
split second convulsion that slipped him out.

So he gets a short vacation from walks while I try to decide if I can
get the leash on more securely, or need to upgrade somehow.

Louis on the other hand, is still going out. His favorite activity is
rushing up a tree and hanging from a branch by his front legs. He can
stay up there for minutes at a time. I think maybe instead of Asian
Leopard Cat we got a Gibbon hybrid...

Get him a walking jacket. They're harder to get out of. There's a pic

Yes, try a walking jacket, as Candace suggested. Many people have had great
success with them. It may take time for him to become accustomed to one, so
be prepared to spend several days *indoors* letting him get used to it
(starting with the jacket alone and no leash).
