Egads!!!! Those people don't know how many sickos there are out there that will adopt a black cat just to kill* it on Friday 13th!!!! In the UK black cats are considered to be lucky through when it comes to re-homing- not so lucky as they tend to get neglected when people come looking for a cat. Sarrasine and Redunzel though are two "not so lucky" black cats tomorrow. It's Dave's birthday so we are going to an art gallery, for a meal and to a gig so guess who are going to spend most of the day on their own? wrote in message oups.com... Not a good marketing technique, IMO. Sherry Agreed. I hope at least they do thorough screening on the people adopting. We are also very careful around Halloween with the black cats. -Kelly |

It rather indicates they are of less value or something. Anyone who will pay $50 for a cat, will also pay $80. If a $30 savings makes or breaks the decision to adopt, can they really afford the cat anyway? Sherry |

If a $30 savings makes or breaks the decision to adopt, can they really afford the cat anyway? I know, like it's buying a toaster or something. "Oh this one's on sale, I'll take it!" I've never had an adopter make a decision based on price. Our senior (7 yrs +) cats have a lower fee than younger cats, but I don't think it makes a difference. We've done "Adopt-A-Thons" before during typically slow months, where we lower the adoption fee to try to get more cats moved, and they never work. No one goes, hey cats are on sale, think I'll get one. Plus they used my least favorite phrase in this article (granted, could have been the writer's choice, but I still hate it) "get rid of". -- -Kelly |

I agree, I hope they can be selective, why not, they do it with people. If you goto adopt a child they screen you heavy, or at least thier supposed to. |

I don't know if it's lore or what but a black cat is very appealing to me.....all cats hold some kind of mystery to me but the black ones just a bit more mysterious to me.......I think I just talked myself into a black cat for my rescue cat if I do that.......lol......I didn't realize that people shyed away from taking black cats from a shelter do you think its just because of folklore.....?? Brad LIFE'S JOURNEY IS NOT TO ARRIVE AT THE GRAVE SAFELY IN A WELL-PRESERVED BODY, BUT RATHER TO SKID IN SIDEWAYS, TOTALLY WORN OUT, SHOUTING... " HOLY @#$%... WHAT A RIDE!" |

Brad Solid black cats are hard to place at shelters. It's just not one of the colors that most people choose. I do love them, though I've never had one. Especially the shorthaired, sleek, lanky ones that look like panthers. :-) Sherry |
