[With a few false starts the convoy moves out again and starts rolling
towards the east. A few short hours later they enter Amarillo, Texas.
They exit from Interstate 40 at Lakeside Drive, following a string of
trucks heading for the Petro truck stop there. After turning south our
convoy continues past the truck stop a few miles, then turns off onto a
smaller highway, then onto a smaller farm road, then onto a barely
visible dirt road. Though it's hard to see, the track across the scrub is
smooth and well maintained.

After a few miles of dusty driving, when no human habitation can be seen,
some low structures appear. At first glance they appear to be the remains
of an ancient farm house and out buildings that have fallen into ruin,
but on closer inspection recent framing and bracing can be seen, as well
as unbroken windows in the walls. The lead truck pulls up to the nearest
of these buildings and releases it's air brakes. As the hiss dies out a
plump armadillo waddles out of the building.]

Harri! Youz madeded it! An dat musss be OT. Iz pleased to meet
yourownsleveseses. OT, I'z Arnold da Armadillo, an I run dis here shelter.

[Arnold turns toward the building and whistles, and a group of armadillos
and jackrabbits come running from the surrounding buildings. A rumbling
sound can be heard, and finally a string of fork lifts rolls out of the
farthest building, cats and coyotes at the controls.]

OT, an all da rest of you kitties - oh, an goggiessessess and

strengthened da buildings, and one ub da kitties dat decided to help
ussesses conbinced a hoomin to come out here and drill some new wellses,
and we'z got a good setup now. But we'z real short on fudz an medicnes,
an dis place gets realreal hot in da summer, an some ub da baby kittenses
