Default Human Purr Request

On 2006-03-26, Pamela Shirk penned:
Today we got a letter from our Congressman, Robin Hayes, saying that
he has been in touch with the VA, and that they have received our
request for reconsideration/hearing and that it is waiting for
consideration. I know this may sound greedy, but could you please
ask your friends to purr that the bozos realize that Rob doesn't
have a hang nail and needs full disability? The change in status
would mean $700 more a month, Mandy's and my college would be
covered by the VA, and Rob would be able to get more of the things
he needs.

It doesn't sound greedy. Veterans risk their lives for a pretty
meager pay; the least we can do is give them adequate benefits.

If only the current administration supported veterans as they deserve!

Not just the current administration. Hilary tried to use the military honor
guards as waitstaff when they first went into the White House. We're still
fighting for retirement pay. You see, the military earns %50 or better of
their final base pay after they retire, unless they're disabled. Then the
retired pay is reduced by the amount of VA disability compensation one gets,
unless on is 20+ years before retirement, and has %100 disability. Rob will
receive both full VA and military benefits, if he survives to be 62.

What do you expect from people who managed to avoid any
active service, because they had wealthy parents? I see all
those adds on TV touting the various armed services, and
notice they talk a lot about college credits and stuff like
that, but never mention the pay - or that at present you're
more likely to find yourself facing bullets in Iraq than
college profs in America.

There is nothing greedy in this! You all have a family to consider, and your
husband's a veteran and deserves better for his service. Bravo for the
Congressman, I'm glad to see that someone's using his elected office for
something good! Purrs on the way for your appeal, and Rob's health...and give
him a Thank You from one who values her freedom.

Blessed be,
Baha

Pamela Shirk wrote:
As most of you know, my husband, Rob, was retired from the army with brain
cancer. The army has declared Rob as being 100% disabled, but the Veterans
Administration, who are the people who ultimately pay Rob's bills, decided
that Rob was only 30% disabled and send him $500 a month because he receives
medicine for seizures. We've appealed the decision and have filed for a
hearing and for his case to be re-considered. We also contacted our
congressman to ask for his help.

Today we got a letter from our Congressman, Robin Hayes, saying that he has
been in touch with the VA, and that they have received our request for
reconsideration/hearing and that it is waiting for consideration. I know
this may sound greedy, but could you please ask your friends to purr that

Even better: Countdown With Keith Olbermann, on MSNBC. Keith is the kind of
fellow who would eat a story like this for lunch, and invite you to share.

Blessed be,
Baha
