Default Purr request for a dog.

My sisters boyfriend put his dog, Karni, down today. Karni was
perfectly healthy but unfortunately had a dangerous dog order placed on
her. It sounds very dramatic, but Karni wasn't crazy or psychotic.
She did however bite someone who complained to the council and the
dangerous dog order was put in place. No damage was done to the person,
but when someone complains to the council, that's it.

The laws are strict here, and the options were either to keep Karni in
an enclosure with a concrete floor or else put the dog down.
Unfortunately my sister's boyfriend rents and couldn't take the
option of the enclosure. He also lives in a small town where it would
be easy for the pound to track the dog down, so moving house or keeping
the dog predominantly indoors was not an option either.

After months of trying to re-home Karni to friends, family, rescue
groups and anyone else we could think of, all efforts lead to dead ends
and time ran out. Karni was put down today. My sisters boyfriend was
very close to his dog and is heart broken and guilt ridden. I guess he
felt he had exhausted all options, and I guess he probably had. The vet
came round to his house where the deed was done.

This is really very sad. I'm feeling very upset about it. Can't
imagine how he feels. A death sentence for biting someone and it
didn't even draw blood.

Seeing as this group is good at sending purrs, and I do believe that
they help, I'm asking for purrs or prayers for Karni so that she
will have a safe journey to the bridge and can hopefully forgive her
human for what was done.

What a terrible situation. Many purrs for Karni and her family.

As you say, it is really sad, it doesn't seem fair. Purrs for everyone
affected.

I lost my first dog, Mush, in similar circumstances when I was 12. He
accidentally bit a visiting child after being wound up by the little
beast. The childs mother really went into one even though the kid had no
broken skin and a similar dangerous dog order was placed on Mush to that
of Karni.

We will keep Karni and your sisters BF in our thoughts and prayers. Tell
your sisters BF that although he had to make such a heart wrenching
decision, he showed his love for Karni by having the courage to be there
at the end as his friend went across the bridge. He could have easily
taken the cowards way out and dumped Karni at the vet to go to the
bridge alone.

This brought tears to my eyes. We shall light a candle for Karni to help
guide her on her journey and send purrs to your sister's boyfriend for
his heartache and pain. Purrs for you and your sister as well.

Don't even get me started on dangerous-dog-hysteria. Purrs for Karni
and her family.

How terribly, terribly sad. Inexcusable. Purrs aplenty for Karni and
the BF.

If that ever happened to me, the first place I'd call is Best Friends
Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah. They've had some amazing results
rescuing such pets from the long arm of the law.
