I'm not sure, but I think the above was meant to be some kind of parody. - Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - This whole thread just makes me sad. It's a perfect example of what rpca has become. David's post was a story. An *anecdote*. *It was what this ng used to be all about. This is also a perfect example of why *I stopped posting to alt.cats and rec.pets.cats.behavior. I could post a perfectly legit question with the scenario involved. There would *always* be *someone* who, instead of taking the point intended, would pick up on some turn of phrase, and slam me good for something entirely unrelated. And it would *always* be that the poster misinterpreted what I said in the first place. But RPCA wasn't like that. It is now. There are people now whom it seems are simply searchng for an opportunity to be disagreeable when they read a post. Especially if it's from someone you may not particularly like, or someone you don't know. What makes me saddest is the hypocrisy here, and I wonder how this post would have been received had it been authored by a regular poster. David and I don't always see eye to eye. But I've read his posts for over ten years and he does have a wonderful dry wit and sense of humor. Some people didn't "get" it because he doesnt post much anymore and you're not familiar with him. BTW, he painstakingly has kept a list of all our cats RB and living, just simply by labor of love. It also makes me wonder how some of you would react to David Yehuda. Google his posts in the archives sometime. He was the king of creative license with his postings. I think he would also be very sad to read this thread. Some posts are meant to be entertaining, nothing more. They're not supposed to give you insight into our private lives or make you think you know what kind of people we are. Well said Sherry. had david described said situation as you had i think there would have been
less of a fuss, i play that same game with Trudi, and she had to learn that bunny kicking was to be done softly, it only took a couple of times of me just freezeing and ignoring her shen she got too rough to get my point across, now, if she gets into my lap and i flip her onto her bacck she can wrap all four paws around my forearm and i can actually carry her that way, I of course always have the other one under her but she thinks she is doing it all because i keep it just low enough to let her hang there, no clue why she like it but she purrs her loudest doing this game, and you can ask gramby she has a mighty loud purr in general, Lee "Judith Latham" wrote in message ... In article , David Stevenson wrote: Granby wrote I put you in KF then took you out trying to be a reasonable person. Now you go back as I think you are doing this just to upset people, bah humbug to you. *I* was not the horrible person who decided to attack a perfect stranger on this NG. If you support that sort of personal attack, I hope you never read anything of mine and I hope I never read anything of yours again. You may expect personal attacks on your family. I do not and find them extremely upsetting. Please will everyone calm down. I understand David's wife, letting the cat's claws just stick in a little then when the cat pushes it's luck one too many times stopping it. I play what I call fisticuffs with Sootie as I did Sweep RB. I stroke under her chin, and she grabs me with both front paws and pretends to bite my hand. Both cats learned to retract their claws and should they slip up I only have to say "claws" and they retract them. The pretend bites never break my skin and if she becomes too enthusiastic I pull out of the game. Ok at first before she learned the rules I got a few scratches but now I get none. On the other hand when Sweep took to leaping at my legs and biting them when I was otherwise occupied (I'll leave that to your imagination, but I was sitting down in the bathroom) I had to take action in that I pushed her away from my legs with some velocity. She stopped doing it. There is a distinct difference in behaviour which needs different reactions. Gandalf may have misunderstood what was happening, been in a sensitive mind set. I don't know. I don't think he is a man who sets out to upset people. I don't think that the other people who reacted against your post are either. I am glad that you've started to post here more often so please don't stop. Remember, I have to deal with the Stourbridge ring road and need to read posts here to recover. The current thread was merely reaction to unjustified attacks on my wife. Answer me this, Yowie: you posted a lot of posts about Shmogg, many humorous, some involving Joel. Meowing loudly and getting in my face are annoying enough, I am *not* going to let them think thats its in any way OK to hurt me or mine on purpose (and fairs fair, if one of the two-foots hurts either of them accidently we get a swift bite or nasty scratch for our trouble to let them know that they dont' think being hurt is acceptable either). Last thing I'd want them to do is hurt Cary once they realise he's just as capable of operating the kibble box as I am. Yowie shrug Different interpretations, I guess. If you're replying to my post, I wouldn't call it "phyiscally injurious" in any way, shape or form. I never had even a mark on my leg. The key word is "intent". He didn't intend to "phyiscally injure" me. If he wanted to, believe me, he could have. The most I'd do is scold him and rake his paw off my leg with my hand. Same with love bites, or kneading? There's a little discomfort there for the owner, but no injury, and no intent to harm. Would you punish them for that too? I've had cats for 40 years at least, and have *never* gotten rid of one because he was too aggressive. I know where the line is between a cat asking for a pet, and a cat who's aggressively trying to hurt me. Sherry I don't often post anymore, but I'm in Sherry's camp here. Lunatic loved to attack Jody's hands when he was tying his shoes in the morning. She's grown up quite a bit in the last six years so she doesn't anymore but it was obvious, to her, it was only a game to play with Daddy. She always ended up with ear scritches. Incidentally I found her in a cage at PetsMart *because* she was deemed aggressive. She wasn't a clawer, she was a biter. But even "biter" doesn't portray the love nips. She never applied pressure, and she never ever punctured anybody. She never even left indentions. But the mechanics of biting were there and I suppose for some people, that was unacceptable. 'Tic is so regal and ladylike now. Today I don't think she'd ever embarrass herself by playing. Nothing but sitting on a throne waiting for pets for her. Sweet, always purrs, patience with my four year old but prefers to be treated like very very gently. I miss the playful Miss. Mischief cat that she used to be. Grace |
