The cat would stand back and LOOK at the edge of the counter for mouse traps before jumping up. I was going to try fly paper, but didn't ever get around to that. Or thumb tacks. Sprinkle of cayanne pepper on the counter? I hope you aren't serious about this. I don't know the previous history and am trying to give you the benefit of the doubt, in spite of the tasteless flatbed truck jokes. I did try mouse traps to keep Ruffus off the kitchen counter. There was an outrage on the kitty board, and a lot of vicious and hostile posts. But not much teaching, and I could not get anyone to tell me what was so outrageous. One of the posters (who I've not seen recently here) and her husband explained to me that a friend of theirs, cat found a mouse trap in the hall of the apartment. The paw damage went septic, and the cat died of injuries. I had totally no way to know. I thanked them for the teaching moment. I went home and took down all mouse traps, so as not to injure Ruffus. Sadly, while I was thankful for the teaching and changed my ways, some of the posters on this list continue to bash and throw kitty litter lumps at me for something that happened in 2006 (or was it 2005?) and has not happened since. Just as a caution. Be very careful what you write on this board. Because eight years later, the unkind, vindictive and punitive types will still be throwing cat**** at your every post. Just like now. BTW, the tasteless screw gun jokes are AFTER having a load of cat**** thrown at me. "let the crime fit the punishment". Ok, you got a bad response from some people here because of something that happened years ago which upset people. (I was on the group in 2005/6.) You also got some friendly and, I hope, helpful advice from other people. Your response to the 'cat**** thrown at you' isn't helping your case. I realise it upset you but by retaliating in the way you have weakens your case. Please let it drop and show that you're not that nasty person your opponents think you are. That you do care about the cat you're about to adopt (and other cats too). Most people here will be interested in how you get on. Judith I wish to think that discriminating readers can tell the difference between the real me, and the occasional rude reply to rude people. So, what does it demonstrate if I sit back and don't make any response to rude? That I'm a litter box, and people should throw cat**** at me? No, it demonstrates that such things are beneath you and not worth noticing. -- Joy Unlimited Colorful Crocheted Critters Photos at http://www.PictureTrail.com/joy9 |

No, it demonstrates that such things are beneath you and not worth noticing. I try my best, but some times I notice anyway. Noticed in another post that Christina Websell rudely made a remark, and then in passing remarks that she won't see my reply. She's risen to new levels of beneath me. .. Christopher A. One of his cheerleaders back in 2006 then said we got the wrong impression because gee, at the time he *also* mentioned using mousetraps and thumbtacks as countertop deterrents. All these years later, this is no coincidence. Deja vu Troll! Jill |

Yellow crookneck squash is my favorite. I'm going to try this...it's easy, and you always have good recipes. MaryL |

Locally grown crookneck squash is plentiful where I live most of the year. I cobbled the recipe together after having "squash casserole" as a side dish at a number of "Southern style" restaurants. If the squash is on the large side I sometimes lightly steam the slices before assembling the dish. Jill |
