Sounds unlikely Steve. Like in any group, there are nuts everywhere.
But I am basically an environmentalist and would never stand in the way of something so clearly necessary. Either these people are nuts or there was something else going on. dgk - It would appear you doubt my word. That's your option. But I lived through this and watched one of my closests friend die because of the damn fire it created. Environmentalism has become an extemist sport populated with a raft of unbalanced individuals who could care less who they kill and how much they damage. The Haughton Creek fire was just one more example in a long list of them. Doubt me if you will - but I lived through it. I went to the funeral. |

You're choosing extremists to represent the whole, which is an extremist viewpoint in and of itself. Really good point, Diane! In my next life, I'm coming back on Vulcan. LOL! These stories seem to tell a different story about the N. Idaho forests. Fires are a part of the forest's natural cycle, and these beetles are also a part of the cycle. I'm sorry your friend died, but don't twist the story to make it the fault of environmentalism. Let's also be honest that the environmental groups are concerned about the old growth forest harvest that always seems to the focus of these "thinning" projects to "reduce the risk of wildfire". Old-growth is the most immune to forest fire, they teach you that in first-year forest biology. http://www.mtexpress.com/2001/01-07-...-11beetles.htm http://www.pestlaw.com/x/news/2001/20010701.html http://www.idahostatesman.com/Search/story.asp?id=23566 |

Thank you for a most enlightening post, Karen Karen, where do you see that Steve is "twist"ing his story? Perhaps you just don't agree with his experience (and how can that be since you weren't there) and that equates in your mind to a "twist"?? You seem to be embarassed by the environmental agenda for you to attempt to cover for them. |
