My Afternoon homecare has been a bit "unpredictable". I've had the
same PCA for that slot since Sept '06 when Joanne was injured. Due to
financial issues she didn't get her car inspected in time so she
didn't dare drive from NH border to W Mass. where I live. The person
in charge decided to replace her. They found a woman who lives in T. I
was told she was cat friendly.

Sherry the sceduler came out with her so that we could train her.
Sherry and I warned her that Spicey is my Guard cat and takes a while
to accept new aides. Well the next day she walks almost on top and
Spicey removes some of her skin. Next day same thing. She said Spicey
must be declawed. Which I objected to and explained why. She was
adamite (spelling fart here). Then it was suggest I crate her. Tak,
Joyce, and Charleen know this isn't possible. Part of why Spicey was
on edge with her because I kept having to re-explain how to do things.
I was as patient as possible but I know Spicey picked up on what I was
feeling.

Today thanks to Sherry and Cindy resolving her inspection issues I
found out Cindy will be back Weds. Which is great because Cindy is
Spicey's GBP (Great Bestower of Peparoni.).

I'm glad that you got that resolved! The new aide didn't sound like
she was fitting into that role at all. And as for declawing Spicey,
that's just ridiculous. Both Charleen and I have received whaps from
Spicey, Charleen on her shoe, and me on the back of the hand.

Spice is a small, light cat with tiny, dainty, multicolored paws, and
she doesn't have the inertia to make her slashes hurt. Just wear
socks that go up to the knees, and you're fine.

Now I must plug the video of the pretty girl that we took last year

I'll say! And to demand a cat be declawed? That's ridiculous. That woman
plainly didn't like or understand cat behavior.

Besides being upsetting it showed how little she knew and understood
cats. I explained to her that declawing was removing more then the
claw, but she still thought it was a good idea. Margi one of my
overnight aides is a Vet Tech, she said that most Vets will no longer
declaw.

From the PCA's I''ve met sometimes in hospital rooms hired to monitor
patients, I have notice that they can be just as mouthy and nervy as
nurses.....but lack the training/knowledge/brains of nurses and I soon
learned not to take any lip from them when going about my work.
Happy to hear you retain your old standby PCA again.

Yikes, Suz, did you type that whole post out key by key? Or have you
gotten some voice-recognition software for your PC?

When I visited you, I remember you put Spicey in your bedroom because
she seemed quite upset by my presence. Could you have done that? I guess
it's moot now, since you're getting Cindy back, but if this ever comes
up in the future, maybe you could do that?

Can't believe this woman felt entitled to tell you you had to declaw
your cat.

Yup typed with my own little pencil & pinkies.

Part of what I need is done in the bedroom. So shutting her in there
wouldn't work.

YAY!!!! I'm so glad for you and for Spicey. It is so hard to find someone
that you can feel comfortable with and that feel comfortable with you. I'm
dreading it when Rob has to go back into hospice as his favorite CNA no
longer works for the hospice he went through. Isn't it amazing how cats
KNOW which people are good ones and which are shredding material? Marcella,
Rob's first CNA, worked well with him and was a good person, but Sonya
decided that Marcella needed to get over her fear of reptiles. I'm just
glad that only lizards donated time and effort for the cause. Sonya would
have been outside in the enclosure permanently had she brought in a snake..

Spicey knew that the woman they brought in wasn't the right one for you and
she let you know it as well. Spicey is a good guard cat.

Sounds like she was a bit short of understanding the role of caregiver
as well.

Spicey is a good and caring cat and will deal with interlopers that
don't have your best interest at heart.

It's the small ones that'll get you. Tanada has drawn more blood than the
rest all together. Although Merlin has been trying to increase his life
list.
