We always changed the really awful names, but tried to change them to
something that sounded
similar. So "Satan" became "Satin", "Booger" became "Sugar", "Snot"
became "Dot". And if
those sound like bad names, there were worse ones that I wouldn't even
write here. :-)

Agreed on Satan and Snot, but Booger isn't so bad. It's kind of a
cute pet name, I think.

I often called Lindy "Precious", because she was. She had this cute
little
thing of rolling onto her back, with her front paws curled under. I
called
that her "precious pose", and when she did that, I always told her how
precious she was.

Roxy does this, too. I call it her "fetching" pose. It's adorable, but
the curled-under paws are maybe just a *tad* manipulative - like she saw
it in the "How to Win Over Your Human" manual or something.

Often if I called her precious she'd go into that pose.

LOL!

She was about a year and a half old when I got her, and had obviously
had a
home previously. I had a theory that she had been owned by a little old
lady who had died, and that her original name was "Precious".

Sounds like Lindy had low mileage and excellent care. Good deal!

She also was very strong-willed. When I got her, Skeeter had been with me
for about five years. Although a cat I had lost had been the head cat, I
assumed Skeeter would naturally assume that duty, since she was considerably
older than Lindy and had seniority in the household. Ha! It didn't take
Lindy two weeks to establish her role as head cat. Lindy was 15, and an
only cat, when I acquired Pickles and Waffles. True, they were new and
younger. However, each of them weighed almost 15 pounds, and they were
long-haired to boot. Lindy was short-haired, and had lost a little weight,
so she was under 6 pounds. She whipped them into shape in no time, although
she and Pickles (the female) did have a few cussing matches before the fact
was firmly established. Waffles didn't even try to argue.

When I got Tiger he was four months old and named "Tweedles". It's a
good thing I changed it. I can't imagine a 24 pound Maine Coon named
Tweedles!

That's wonderful! Sounds like they're both happy to have found each
other. How is it that John already had a litterbox, if he didn't have
a cat? Just in case? Leftover from a previous cat?

Naturally, you will be asked to provide pictures of John's new
addition. Let me be the first.

Yes, he had a cat named Kidder. She was about 16 when she died. He was
devastated. Since then he's fed strays on the front porch, and he let them
come inside when it was cold. (I can't call them ferals since they were so
willing to come inside. Just cats people turned loose or whatever.) So he
still had a litterbox.

As for pictures, I can't promise any. John is a master with a paint brush.
But when it comes to cameras, not so much. Especially digital cameras. He
doesn't own (or even know how to turn on) a computer so a digital camera is
useless. I'll see if he can send me some pictures from a regular camera.
You know, the kind that takes film

I don't think this cat is 11 years old. I know I've only had one cat,
but at age 11 Persia didn't want to play all day *and* all night.
Maybe Precious is just hyper because it's a new place? Or because
someone guessed her age wrong. If she originally came from a shelter
it's entirely possible no one knew her exact age, so they guessed at
it. He needs to find out more about where Precious came from.

Meanwhile, he says Precious is an absolute love bug. It seems
Precious is starved for attention. The woman who had Precious also
has two dogs, some sort of short (English?) bulldogs. Don't ask me
why she could take the dogs when she moved but not Precious. I
suspect the dogs got the majority of attention and Precious was merely
there.

I know a precious, a sunshine and a star. Guess what era their parents
were from ;-). Have a friend his name was Ray middle name OF last name
Sunshine. He legal changed his name the day he turned 18 which of course
was years ago. His parents are hippies to the fullest extent. Just dealt
with a young lady her name was Paprika

That strikes me as a very charming name - it sounds like a legitimate name,
unlike, say, oregano or asafoetida.

There was recently a movie called Precious, which was the name of the
main character. I didn't see it - it looked way too depressing.
