Default Purrs for everyone who needs them

I'd say "blanket purrs" for all who need them but since I'm about to die in
this heat even with air conditioning I'd turn into a puddle before I could
even grab a blanket. You all know what I mean so, purrs to all who need
them.

I love Persia dearly but my god, what is the ambient temperature of a cat?
Especially one snuggling up next to you all night when the temperature
outside is in triple digits and the A/C is working overtime with a new
filter to keep it at least 80F degrees when I have it set to 76?!

On a funny note, she snuggled up next to me last night and had the hiccups.
So she was purring, then I'd feel her (not hear her) go "hic". And a few
seconds later, "hic". (Later, rinse, repeat, as the saying goes). I
couldn't sleep anyway but as I was stroking her soft fur I had to wonder,
dammit Persia, did you teleport some wine in here or something? Planning a
purrday celebration for Weebs?

It is overcast today and has cooled down to 87 degrees. What a relief
from the triple digits! Purrs that you will get some relief too. MLB

This is where "its a dry heat" really makes the most difference. We only
set the A/C to 80F most of the time. Its quite comfortable. But only
because you won't sweat.

You gotta remember Persia's normal body temperature is triple digits too.
She probably finds 80 a trifle cool. I'm pretty sure normal for a cat is
102.5F so she thinks you should be cold and is just trying to warm you up.

I prefer to think she just likes to snuggle with me But it's going to be
100F here again today and I can't stand heat so I try to keep it cool; I run
fans rather than just crank the a/c down to "arctic freeze". Heat makes me
feel ill. It's never bothered Persia before. We've had 10 heat related
deaths in the last 2 weeks. Unfortunately elderly people who don't have any
standing or ceiling fans.

But in the next county over two teenagers died of heat stroke when their
football coach insisted they practice during this heat wave. Oh how awful!
So the school switched "practice" to night time. WHAT?! Practice what, how
not to die? What is wrong with these people? Is a high school football
team so important? Apparently so. Makes no sense to me.

Jill I forgot where you live at but I know how you feel being here in
Florida.
Where my Dollar store is located at there is a senior center. they have
paramedics standing by there daily for there are at least 3 or 4 seniors a
day being taken over by the heat. With school starting back I can't see
practicing in the day being an ex football player in high school I can
not see what idiot coach would make these kids practice in 105 weather

That happens too much. :-( Sometimes they find elderly folks dead
from the heat,
and they have a working A/C. They just don't turn it on. They don't
realize how hot it
is because they may not feel it as we do. And energy costs are so
high, that's part of
the reason, too.

In the UK we get the opposite when elderly people die in cold weather
because of the energy costs

A lot of pensioners spend far too much of their limited income trying
to keep warm and some just can't afford to do so- I read somewhere
that with rising energy costs and pensions worth nothing like the
current rate of inflation- sometimes a pensioner would have to spend
more than 50% of their weekly income to stay warm....

It's a f***ing scandal as far as I am concerned

The kids can practice safely IF the coach knows what he is doing and if they
DRINK plenty of water and have plenty of water breaks.

If our teams didn't practice during heat waves, most years no one would be
able to field a team before November.

They can do more strength and mental stuff in the early part of practice and
leave the aerobic things till after it starts to cool off.

Of course here most all adults know the signs of heat stroke and watch the
kids like hawks as well.
