Default Bonnie, the feral (baby steps)

Bonnie, who was feral 2 years ago at this time as a tiny kitten (I
didn't meet her until May of 2003 when she was 5-6 months old)
still to this day won't let me pick her up. That's fine, we can
live with that. She's come a long way since then, and loves to be
pet on her own terms, and will occasionally come sit on my lap,
sleeps with me, etc. Most of the time this arrangement is fine. Vet
time is when it's a real pain, but our vet is flexible and if I
can't catch her when her appt comes around, we can cancel and
reschedule.

Now is another time when its a pain because she has sniffles and
has some sneezing fits. I'm sure she's probably fighting off kitty
virus's since the kitten's came with them. She's fully vaccinated,
so I know it could be worse. She won't eat canned food so I can't
mix l-lysine or anything else for that matter, into her food to
help her. The other night I was able to corner her in the bathroom
and give it to her in capsule form, but a daily dose would be near
impossible. Tonight I got another capsule into her. She followed me
into the bathroom like she does a lot, and after I shut the door
she just looks at me like "oh no. I was tricked again". After I got
the pill into her, she let me pick her up and hold her and talk to
her. She didn't fight me at all. And, after I let her out of the
bathroom, she came to me in the kitchen for a treat.

oh, Bonnie just knows you love her and want her well. Glad to hear the
little 'feral' is becoming more trusting. Good on ya!

Sounds like you are doing good with Bonnie. I know what it's like to have to
earn the trust of a kitten.

That's great! Thank goodness my Antonio loves canned food, or I would never
be able to med him. Two semi-feral shelter kittens came down with ringworm,
and their foster mom reports that medding them is helping with their
socialization.

My Moxie was a feral when somebody caught her & tok her to the shelter.
She was a year old when I got her, 7 years ago. I could barely touch
her at the time. Now I can occasionally pick her up for a few seconds,
& she likes some petting, esp. face rubs. But she has never sat in my
lap. I hold out hope that she will some day, since she has gotten
gradually so much better over the years. Good luck to us both.

Wonderful Cheryl, I got Wi;son when he was about 5 weeks old, 3Yrs
ago you would have thought he would grow up normal, being so young, but not
him.I nearly always have to catch him, just to go to bed, sounds like
Bonnie, he'd like to stay in the lounge room at night and scratch my sofa's
to his hearts content. Jean.P.
