Hairball help
Hey all, My Mom has a longhaired cat named Louie. She told me yesterday that he's been puking nearly every day and there's hair in it. She says she's been brushing him and giving him his Laxatone, but he's still ingesting too much fur, apparently. Anyone have any more suggestions I can pass on to her? He's a really picky-ass eater, but he likes oil in his food. Problem is, he's already a bit on the fat side. So, oil isn't really a great option, since it has so many calories. A bit of Laxatone and a good brushing has always worked for my kids... -- -- ~kaeli~ What if the Hokey Pokey IS what's it's all about? http://www.ipwebdesign.net/wildAtHeart http://www.ipwebdesign.net/kaelisSpace |

If your mom can find a few things he likes, gets him on a strictly canned food diet and counts his calories (15 calories/pound and I gave you a link to calorie content of foods in another post) he will not only lose weight, but he will have very few hairballs. I have 23 cats that are on a canned diet and I maybe see 8-10 hairballs a month and that's it. I have 23 cats that are on a canned diet and I maybe see 8-10 hairballs a month and that's it. We did try that, but he's a fierce picky eater. He was raised on dry and she didn't vary the flavor at all. Best way to make a finicky eater ever. As far as wet, he will ONLY eat Friskies Mariner's Catch flavor. Nothing else. And he doesn't always eat that. I came by my free-feeding habits naturally - it's how we always did it. Mom still free-feeds dry and offers wet in the evening (after I told her how much better it was for them). This is one of those "I wish I had known then what I know now" things, I'll tell you. I'd have never started the kids on dry... -- -- ~kaeli~ What's another word for thesaurus? http://www.ipwebdesign.net/wildAtHeart http://www.ipwebdesign.net/kaelisSpace |

See if he'll eat it. His normal food is Pro Plan chicken and rice, IIRC. He may turn up his little kitty nose, but it's worth a shot...My kids like PP as well as Max, so maybe...
