I love Ted Turner, or whoever at his outfit has got captioning on most all
of the ancient stuff.

I have become pretty depending on captioning. I'm not deaf, but I tend to
miss a lot of dialogue on TV due to electronic distortion, maybe, or the
background music interfering, or maybe it's because people don't enunciate
clearly. It's great that the Turner stations caption old movies, too!

You're gonna have such a headache. I prescribe two Tylenol and about
a quart of water. Of course that will just make you drunk again but
then you'll feel better.

Sounds like so much fun.

Jo

Ugh, you got that right, Jo. Not feeling too hot this morning. Now I
have to go to work all day and pour wine for people. The fumes!
Oh well, but it was worth it, never would I get the chance to try such a
wide range of champagnes all at once and the food was so excellent and
we all had the best time. Still chuckling that the $250+ bottle Krug
was pretty much universally panned and the much more reasonably priced
vintage Peloris (New Zealand, $45) came up near the top of the heap for
most people. Although the vintage Veuve Cliquot was the definite
winner. At $120/bottle, I'd still never actually buy it though.

Its federal election night here and 3 of the 5 free-to-air TV channels are
not coincidentally, are showing election coverage.

Of the two free to air channels not covering the election, the commercial
channel, there's The Empire Strikes Back, and on the not-for-profit
channel is showing their usual weird overseas stuff.

So Joel decides he's going to watch Empire.

Except that the channel Empire Strikes Back happens to be on has pretty
lousy reception - you can still see the picture but it has snow and a
'ghost'.

So Joel opens up our 'box set', gets out the Empire Strikes Back DVD that
has sat there, untouched, for a good 5 years or so, and pops it into the
DVD player so he can watch it "with a better picture".

Whats worse is that he fiddled around with it until the DVD was in sync
was with the free-to-air broadcast (missing the first 10 minutes fo th
movie in the process) and is *pausing* the DVD in the ad-breaks so it
stays in sync with the free to air transmission.

I just want to know *why* after 5 years of not touching the thing, does he
have to play it tonight, and I have no clue as to why it has to be in sync
with the broadcast...

And I thought Shmogg was strange...

If you're paddling upstream in a canoe and a wheel falls off, how many
pancakes can you fit in a doghouse? None, icecream doesn't have bones.

LOL, I've done that, except for the syncing up thing. That's a little OTT
for me.

LOL! I've started watching something on the TV, found that it had a
lousy signal, or too many ad-breaks, and gone and dug out the disk
from our collection to watch instead - but I'd never deliberately try
to keep it in-sync with the tv! But then I'm not a man :P

It's a man thing.

If you don't have a Y chromosome, even the exploitation would't make
sense, but I'll give you a hint:

Because he can.

And it makes perfect sense to me.

Yowie doesn't count as "company" for watching a video? (I
don't think she's likely to find that response particulary
flattering!) ;-)

I was talking about me - I live alone. Plus, it wasn't clear to me that
Yowie was watching along with Joel. If so, then apologies for the chopped
liver implications, Yowie!

I didn't notice any 'chopped liver implications' in your original post,
Joyce, I didn't read it like that at all.

Unless its utterly blatent, I don't see any subtle could-be double-meaning
vague insults or slurs because I know that the original poster wouldn't have
been thinking that when they wrote, and if I do see something that could be
take two ways, I wonder what is wrong with *me* seeing the bad side rather
than thinking someone wrote it that way intentionally. Misunderstandings and
disagreements we may have, but I don't think there's been more than one or
two intentionally insulting posts made here from one regular to another in
all the years I have been reading. Which is why I keep reading.
