Default A Note from Scott McKenzie

"In 1973 I traveled from Joshua Tree to Virginia Beach to join an artist
friend of mine, David, his wife Judy, and four year old son. David had
been
commissioned by Doris Duke to sculpt a statue, and part of the deal was a
lovely
two story colonial house she owned, which sat on the fairway of a golf
course
that was part of the most prestigious (most segregated and expensive)
country club in the area

Judy had a white Pekinese that David trained to retrieve golf balls.
Picture a foursome teeing off a couple of hundred yards away and their golf
balls
landing out on the fairway in the area just opposite the house. David
would
then give the command, the Pekinese ran out on the fairway, retrieved a
ball
and brought it back to David, who placed it in a bucket and gave the dog a
treat. Sometimes there was time enough for the Pekinese to retrieve more
than
one ball before the golfers arrived in the area.

Naturally, none of them ever found their golf balls. The dog was so small
that it couldn't be seen from very far away, especially when it was in the
fairway grass, so by the time the golfers were close enough, the Pekinese
was
resting comfortably at home. I can still see them wandering around, poking
at
the grass, looking for those balls. I can't remember how many buckets
David
filled over the year or so I lived there.

Maybe you need to acquire a Pekinese?"

LOLOL Thanks fot the the thought, Scott!Lest anyone forget, Scott

Meanwhile back at the ranch... my brothers are arriving tomorrow afternoon.
They are NOT staying at the house (thank god). My brother Scott (not Scott
McKenzie) tracked my brother Paul down and they will be staying in a hotel
in town. After that, let the games begin.

At this point I don't really care about much of anything. I am tired.

Hugs and purrs to all who who need them.

Get some well deserved rest. As I found out after my father died, there were
a limited number of things that needed to be done and once I got those done
I could just set my mind to the grieving process. I had never been in a
funeral home before, but I found them to be the most helpful, take all my
appropriate problems away. I just turned it over to them. My siblings on the
other hand were not so helpful or amenable and didn't even have the decency
to show up but wanted to do things their way.

My advice to you from my experience - unless it is something you will truly
care about in five years, let your siblings do what they want. I have found
from the death of both of my parents not quite a year apart that my grieving
process was more important than anything else that was done. And the things
that were done that irritated me 3 and 4 years ago now I just remember as
things that happed, but without a lot of emotion. I still miss my parents,
but the situations after their deaths are not big deals to me.

My wish for you is that your siblings take over a lot of the things that
need to be done now with you only jumping in on things you care about. Rest
and let them take care of you this way -even if they are not aware they are
taking care of you. And say hi to Persia - who is now sitting on the couch.

Default A Note from Scott McKenzie

I feel as though I missed the first part of this story. The only
Scott McKenzie I've ever heard of sang that song about San Francisco,
back in the 60s. The group McKenzie Phillips from the 80s were the
kids of Scott and John & Michelle Phillips of the Mamas & Papas,
and that's about all I know.

This was a note he wrote to you?

That's an adorable story about the Pekinese. I'll bet that dog had
a great time retrieving all those golf balls.
