Ultrasonic communication by cats?
I recently saw a post somewhere wherein it was proposed that cats have
an ultrasonic (higher than human hearing) fight call? Anyone heard of this? |

I don't know whether it's a "fight"call or not, but I think it's pretty well established that their "silent meow" is audible to other cats, just not to human ears. Actually, the range of human hearing is not nearly so wide as that of cats and dogs - witness the supersonic dog whistle. (Also the electronic "pest control" gadgets that supposedly emit ultra-sonic sound blasts offensive to insects and rodents which are inaudible to humans - and pets, if the claims are true.) |
