Default Update on fire at my friends house

My friend is ok, but in shock. Her granddaughter says she has been
walking around in a daze. She has 3 dogs and 2 cats, and they are all
safe. The one cat they didn't catch until yesterday, and they found her
in a closet in one of the bedrooms. She is usually white, but right now
is black from all the soot. The firefighters saw her (the cat)running
round in her bedroom when they went in with the infrared scanner looking
for hot spots. Poor baby. They have given her baths, but it isn't
getting rid of the soot. I told her to have them wash her in Dawn, which
is good for removing oily stains and is safe for cats. In fact, one of
my cat rescue groups uses it to kill fleas on kittens when they get them
in. Works quite well.

The house is savable, but the whole upstairs will need to be replaced.
The house is fully insured. The kitchen has been destroyed, plus the
bedroom right above it. The firefighters stopped it from going into her
room, and that is where the cat took refuge.

When we stopped by, she was talking with a contractor on how to go
forward from here. One of her sons in law is a home remodeler - a very
good one, in my opinion. So things should look up from here, I hope.

Thank you all again for the purrs and prayers - she needs them!

I'm glad that nobody was hurt, and that she won't have a financial
crisis because of it, either. Purrs for her emotional stress, though!

I hope the poor kitty didn't inhale too much smoke. Having her white
coat look black suggests that she was exposed to a lot of smoke, unless
she ended up in one of the areas where the firefighters had just finished
extinguishing the blaze.

I had a house fire in 2002, and am now in need of touching up the
paintwork in a few spots where underlying soot has bled through and
discolored the surface paint.

Thanks for the update; I was hoping to hear. At least the animals survived
and insurance will help pay to get things repaired. Sincere best wishes for
your friend and purrs, too.
