There are apps (Android and IOS) that tell you whats running in

No, I'm not aware of them. I have a very basic plan. My phone is an
Android. Do you know the name of the Android app for that?

No, but I know there are quite a few.

You can search the app store, but I'll look around
and see if I can find a few. I have a couple of medical appointments
tomorrow, so maybe tomorrow, or by Wednesday.

Thank you.

Jill, I wish you'd try a bit harder with FB rpca. OK there's a lot of

to, it's different, extremely fast paced, just reply to what you
like, tick to like others with various emoticoms, and ignore the rest
that you don't have time for.. I'm sorry you didn't feel welcome, of
course you are. It's just different, you'll get used to it. Persevere.

Thanks!Â* I never said I didn't feel welcome.Â* I just don't like the FB
interface.

I don't like Facebook either. I tried it once, very briefly, many years
ago, took against it and decided I didn't need to spend even more time
on the computer learning to use a program I disliked from the start.

I do miss some of the old groups I used to follow - pretty much defunct
now, all of them, but I doubt I'll give Facebook another try. There's
not much point, since it's such a different kind of software than the
discussions I liked ran on that I doubt I'd like it any more than I did
all those years ago.

Admittedly, I sometimes feel like I'm out of the Ark, since just about
everyone I know seems to be on Facebook, but joining still doesn't
appeal to me.

I don't use FB because they share personal information (a problem that
became even more obvious with recent events).

Hi, Mary Nice to hear from you. Yes, the Facebook interface is very
different, it does take some time to get used to it, but it's worth
persevering. The rpca Facebook group is a secret group - i.e. no-one can
find it if they search for it. You have to be approved to join it, the
admins are people you know, so no worries about you being approved and
only rpca members can see your posts. Most of the old friends you knew
from here are on there. I'm sure they'd love to see you again. Will you
give it some thought at least?
It's a huge group now, there are many people you won't know yet, and the
ones you did know who had nicknames use their real names, but I'm sure
they'll introduce themselves.
Usenet is dying, Mary, please give FB rpca a chance for 6 months. It
does take a while to learn the interface and how to respond but I think
you might be glad if you did. I leave it up to you.

I have to agree with Tina and as you know we reluctantly went onto
facebook. it is worth it to keep in touch with old friends and make new
ones. It is very much the same as on usenet but with pictures. You would
be welcomed.

Judith

I suppose I'm going to have to bite the bullet and go there too. How do
I do that if you can't find it when you search for it?

I'm doing the best I can to keep the usenet group alive! Too bad Buffy
doesn't perform BCT's worth posting about every day. LOL

As far as photos are concerned, I don't need FB to see pics of our cats.
There are plenty of free photo hosting sites available for sharing pics.

As Mary pointed out, Facebook has been in the news quite a bit lately
when it comes to security concerns.

As far as a huge group, I'd rather have a nice intimate group of friends
chatting here on usenet. IMHO, Facebook is entirely too invasive.

Hey, I don't want everything in my house controlled by Smart technology,
either. I had the HVAC unit serviced on Wednesday. The technician told
me they are testing a Smart thermostat with Alexa voice technology built
in. A guy told him he had to disable that feature because his kids were
ordering things from Amazon by talking to the thermostat!

Sorry, sometimes technology is just a bit too much. For me, so is
Facebook. I like text. It's simple.

Believe me, I understand! I've been in Toastmasters for 28 years. I
love it. We always had actual paper manuals for our speech projects.
It was great! You could look through the manual, read about the
projects, and decide which one you wanted to do next. A few months ago,
Toastmasters switch to something called Pathways. It's on line, and you
can only see one project at a time. It's a real pain. Of course the
idea was to attract young people, and some of the younger people I know
love it. I suspect they're going to lose a lot of us oldsters, though.
I'm sticking around for now, but that's partly because we're still
allowed to use the old system for another year or so. After that, I
don't know. A lot of newer things are good, but so are a lot of old things.

GLyN doesn't DO anything worth posting about,
he is a totally CAT cat.

But I still read most stuff here.
And I've never been invited to the FB group,
and probably wouldn't join anyway.

I've dropped several FB groups that went 'closed'
after being open for years.

I'm mostly a lurker who's posted here maybe a handful of times over
the past 20 years. I don't do Facebook either, and have no desire
to.

When Usenet discussion groups started dying I looked around online
for a substitute. I found city-data.com/forum has a diverse mix of
discussion groups. What I like about city-data is that the forums
are lightly moderated, meaning no overt personal attacks, flame wars,
spam, adverts, etc, like here on Usenet. But it is a light
moderation, not heavy-handed (the moderators are all volunteers).

The cat group is here
http://www.city-data.com/forum/cats/

Just thought I would throw this out here as a suggestion for an
alternative to Facebook.

Dee
