Apologies for jumping to conclusions, but I have heard (and been told) those precise words myself from Oci breeders. It irks me a little bit. Bengals are not pit bulls, not vicious wild animals, and not unpredictable in temperament. They are loving, *domestic* cats that happen to have the gorgeous coat pattern of a leopard or margay. Considering the rather un-catlike behaviors I witnessed at a Bengal cattery were F3+ cats were present, I would beg to differ. I have never seen plain ol loveable housecats JUMP INTO water ... Norwegian Forest Cats like water, and will seek it out. or run in a spinning wheel like a hamster ... Cat wheels tend to be very popular with Bengal breeders because Bengals need *so* *much* exercise, but other breeds use them too. or leap vertically or horizontally distances of 6-8 feet ... *grin* I did say that they were athletic. or growl like like a large dog. You? Heh. As a groomer and a behaviourist, I have heard innumerable cats of all breeds and types growl at me. The scariest was a Maine Coon that was having a serious redirected aggression problem. I had a 12 month old Bengal run up my arm (good thing I had a long sleeved sweatshirt on), perch on my shoulder and then stick its nose in my ear. You? Yeah, Kefka and Temujin are shoulder kitties. They like to hop up and say 'hi'. Of course, I also know at least three Devon Rex that do the same thing. I visited Mrs. Mills home/cattery. That was the only breeder I've visited. Her cats were all very lively and curious. He prized breeding male had a voice like no ordinary housecat. Paced a lot. Intreguiging. Bengal voices do tend to be.....unique. *grin* I guess all I am saying is that Bengals are not these wild animals that cannot be trusted. They have some quirky behaviours, but none of which are unheard of in domestic cats as a species. They *are* completely domestic. A DNA test of an F4 or greater will reveal none of the 'wild' markers of the ALC. The rabies vaccine works on them, and they are no more unpredictable or ill-tempered than any other cat. IME, in fact, they have sweeter temperaments. Orchid See Orchid's Kitties! -- http://nik.ascendancy.net/bengalpage Want a Purebred Cat? Read This! -- http://nik.ascendancy.net/orchid |

Thank you for your input. Now that I've figured out how to filter out the riff raff posts, things can only improve. ;-) |

Wow, Phillip. You're really kinda bonkers, aren't you?
Silly woman. Husband leaving the cap off the toothpaste, or leaving a towel on the floor, or vomiting from your cooking equates to feline spraying outside the box? The lovely man vomited from food poisoning from a cheap chinese restaurant. He and I are both *ahem* phenomenal cooks, but sometimes ya gotta grab a quick bite. I was equating behavior that is annoying to me and messes up my house. followed up by ..."but he's still here." Probably because he still keeps a roof over your head. He's getting a Ph.D. We split expenses proportionately. And we're madly in love with each other. You better keep faking it., LOL Guess I'm a lucky girl. Don't have to : I'm sure he loves being equated with a cat. IMO, that's disrespectful, but you're entitled to equate him with whatever you want - he's yours. He couldn't care less. There's four occupants in our home - 2 human and 2 feline. They all have needs and they all ocaisionally do annoying stuff. They're all loved. You women. "He's yours" until ... a younger replacement comes along and gives him "the eye." Then for a moment ... maybe longer, he AIN'T yours. LOL Six years and counting. And ummmm... he's younger than me and dumped a younger girlfriend FOR me. Some people have actual relationships instead of trophy souvenirs. Since you like human anologies - Would you choose to marry an alcoholic just because he's a "hard case" or an "underdog"? Many women do, and would argue that you need to "help those less fortunate". I don't get the logic, personally. I'm not helping an alcholic by marrying them. What they need is help to stop drinking destructively. Marrying them isn't providing that. What a scared homeless cat needs is a home. That IS helping them and giving them what they need. "tracyrose" is spouting feel good gibberish. Let's say two men have extraordinarily attractive personalities. But one is a well built man with a good income while the other walks with a cane and is on permanent Disability. Depends which one I'm in love with and which one makes me happy and fills my soul and brings me joy and acts like a true partner to me. Being well-built with a good income doesn't make someone right for me. It's nice for them and a heck of a lot easier and gives them more choices in their life, that's all. Oh ... and did I mention that our "tracyrose" wants to start a family. I expect to hear a lot of lip service to an ideal but looking around the first candidate wins the right to breed. Do you like that word ..."breed"!? LOL (sorry ... could not resist) Nope. If I wanted to start a family, I have lovely human breeding stock right here at home, no need to look. But he and I love our lives and work and don't feel the need for children. We have a passel of nieces and nephews and friends and kitties and that's enough. There's overpopulation on the human front, too and humans use up alot more resources than animals do and are far more destructive. So we're going to *not* add to the problem. |

"Philip" wrote You're attitude is young, idealistic, and making me nauseous. ;^) We've got almost 40 yrs marriage and two kids raised and on their own. If you don't want children, get separate beds or one of you get sterilized. Kids change evvvvvvverything. You know, you can be old without being a bitter asshole. I know lots of terrific old people. |
