May your sorrow at losing your beloved Gibby be comforted by the happy
memories you hold in your heart of her life with you and your wife, and the
fact that you gave her a forever home when she so badly needed one long ago.
We like to believe that we will be with our beloved cats again some day,
when we gather them from the foot of the Rainbow Bridge.

I hadn't heard of the Rainbow Bridge until I started reading this NG,
looked it up and found a copy at:

I'm not sure if this is the right place to do this, I'm heart-broken

right
now, and need to tell someone about the loss of a friend.

Gibby, a short haired tabby, was my wife and my good friend for the

past 14
years. We met her at the local shelter on Prince Edward Island, she

was
already an adult at that time. It seems that her original elderly

owner
passed away a short while prior, and the lady's family took Gibby in.

The
families dog mistreated her, so she hid under the couch, refused to

leave,
even defecating there in her terror.

When my wife and I went to the shelter, we thought we would like a

kitten.
Gibby caught our attention immediately, sitting, purring and staring.

This
was her first day on the adoption floor after being treated for

serious
malnutrition. Sure, we picked out a couple of kittens for test

cuddling, but
Gib kept staring, no meowing, just a confident look- she knew we were

to
take her home.

Anyone that knows me, knows that I am not the kind to gush and fawn

over a
lost cat, but Gib was our friend. She spent a lot of good years with

us,
being a mentor to Keisha, Wicca and now Gandalf. In fact, Gandalf

washed
Gibs while she was dying, with Gibby needing to be near him for

comfort.

After a relatively quick decline, Gib finally said good-bye today. She

had
the courtesy, and the strength, to wait until I got home from a job I
couldn't get away from. My wife and I sat with her on the couch while

she
passed, now she has a bed amongst the flowers of our gardens, close to

the
gold-finches and blue-jays she watched, beneath the grass she always

liked
to nibble.

If you have taken the time to read to this point, I thank you. By

doing so,
you have helped to remember her. I just can't handle platitudes and

'we all
go some-day' condolences. I figured someone here would understand.

Good night Gibs. Thank you.
