Default New Cat or Not?

Hello!
Recently in March my cat Sylvanas passed away. At that time, my other
cat, Pagan, had been in the house for about 7 months, and they were
finally starting to get along and play with each other instead of just
giving each other dirty looks. They were even sharing the bed with me
at night (both of them!)

Since Sylvanas left us, Pagan has transformed into a completely
different cat. She is loving, affectionate, and overall much more
needy of attention then she was before. In fact, its gotten to the
point that I am worried for her mental health when I am at work for
extended hours. She never used to demand so much attention, but now
when I get home she is at the door waiting to see me and rolling over
on the floor begging to be pet. I always give her the most attention
possible when at home and she loves keeping me company while I am on
my computer and she sleeps with me every night.

I'm contemplating bringing home a new companion for her - since she
was the companion to solve the problem of Sylvanas being alone all day
while I was at work. That worked out well until Sylvanas became ill
and passed.

Am I making up my worry for Pagan's mental well being, or should I aim
to give her someone to "talk to" and play with when I am not home?

One thing that you should know is that cats sleep
17 to 20 hours a day, so Pagan will probably sleep
that day away while you are at work

I think she'll do fine, just shower her with
attention and play with her when you're home.

I wouldn't say /always/, though maybe "usually". We'd like to have two
cats again, but we are pretty sure Louise would NOT like the idea. At
the SPCA, there are also a few cats who really wouldn't get along with
any other pets, and they have a sticker saying that on their card.

I'll agree that usually it's a good idea, though. Since your two had
gotten along so well together, my vote is in favor of a second cat. My
recommendation would be a kitten of the opposite sex, so there would be
no dispute over which cat is "in charge."

Now, what would make you think that Loveable Louise, cat of few words,
wouldn't like a couple of kitties running round? You are probably right NOT
a good idea.

It is always a good idea to have two cats. A cat that is lonely when
you leave the house will usually go straight to messing up the house.
Believe me, we took Martha to the vet once, and when we got home, Ruby
had cleaned out the fridge! If Pagan is the kind that gets bored
easily, then finding her a playmate is a good idea. It would be a good
idea to get an adult cat, because if a kitten is introduced to an
adult cat, they can get into squabbles.
~Tabbey, cat expert--cause I am a cat!

Hihi, I'm Mosey, also a cat, and I just turned 7 I want to first extend
my sympathies on Sylvanas going to Rainbow Bridge. You DO know about
Rainbow Bridge, don't you?
I agree with Tabbey, Pagan's missing her companion and cats have
emotional feelings, like humans. I'm the top cat in my house and adult
cats can get into squabbles too.
A young 'neutered' female might be a good idea. They don't get as
territorial as us male cats do, trust me on that one. You didn't
mention Sylvanas age.
Yes, a companion would be a good idea.
Keep us posted.
