There is no actual memorial planned for Christy. Her wish was to be
cremated and have her ashes spread in Hawaii.

However, if you wish to make a memorial contribution in her name it has been
requested you do so through the ASPCA. Their phone number is 800-628-0028.
Specify the memorial contribution is for Christy Tipton. (You will need a
credit card in order to do this.)

Please contact me directly for Allan's address where the ASPCA will send
their card/letter announcing your contribution. ***The address information
cannot be posted to newsgroups!!!***

Hi Jill

I am going to have a problem doing this- I can do it via credit card
on their website and can apparently specify that it is in memory of
Christy Tipton and they will then send an e-card presumably to Allan
but I don't have his email address

Or I wonder if I send the money to Victor- he can do it for me? I'll
ping him and see

Or another thought perhaps we could all contribute and do one big
donation from all of us @ RPCA?

What do you think?

I'm not Jill, but you should be able to donate individually to any charity
"in memory of" Christy. You would need to obtain Allan's address if you
want an acknowledgement sent to him.

Hi Mary

It's not that I can't do it online but that it appears if I do that
they will send an e-card but if I call them with Allan's address
they'll send an actual card but if they send an e-card then that will
be sent but some reason I have never been keen on e-cards I'd much
rather there was an actual card he can keep (if he wants)

Just pointing out that anyone who was on the Christmas card list this
year already has Allan's snail mail address.

If you have previous year's card lists it may be there as well.

I wasn't on this year's Christmas card list, and since I've only been here
for 9 months, I obviously wasn't on last year's list either. I was wanting
to send Allen a card he can keep, for comfort. Would someone please be kind
enough send me his mailing address or his e-mail address?

Thank you
Kyla

I used to work for a foundation (until 2 years ago) that received
memorials a lot. We had the person-to-be-notified's address on record
once they notified us that they were naming us as a beneficiary of
memorial requests. Then the donors didn't have to provide that
information. If they requested their donation be given in memory of
Christy Tipton, it was just keyed in the computer that way and an
acknowledgement would be automatically generated for the
person...Allan, in this case...as well as a thank you letter to the
donor. In other words, each gift generated 2 letters.

I would think the ASPCA would use the software that most charities use
(it's called Raiser's Edge, btw) and would have this capability. I
have given to our Humane Society when a deceased person's family has
requested memorials be sent to them and I didn't provide them with the
acknowledgee's address but I do know the acknowledgee was informed of
my donation because I also received a thank you from her as well as
one from the Humane Society. I would be surprised if the ASPCA didn't
do this, too, because otherwise it means they are manually generating
all their letters and that seems like a lot of work for a big
nonprofit.

I would think it would require just one phone call or letter to them
saying a memorial fund is being set up in Christy's name and all gifts
should be acknowledged to her husband and give them his address one
time. They're in the business of fundraising so they want to make it
as seamless a transition as possible so that they get future
memorials.

I don't know their system, of course, but I'm sure they're not
manually typing all these letters up.

I got it, thank you very much and am in the process of
writing him a comfort card. It's so hard to find the right words.

OK Kyla.

First a question. How many times in the coming year do you think you
will find it necessary to mention that you were not on the Christmas
Card list in 2008? Five days into the new year and its already
getting old fast.

Second, it you were not on the list, do you not find it at all
inappropriate to ask someone to send you addresses from the list
anyway?

Third, do you really believe that someone wants to keep a card "for
comfort" from someone they do not know? Are your cards really all
that?

Please, Kyla, if I die, leave my family the hell alone!

Jo
