Default Ping Pam,

Sorry to hear about your idiot sister we're going though a similar
thing at the moment...

Dave’s younger sister (48) died last Wednesday...she was in a house
fire last Saturday (apparently fell asleep with a lit cigarette) was
rescued but with massive burns and smoke inhalation and the local
hospital airlifted her to a specialist unit on Wednesday but by the
time she arrived the admitting docs said it would be a miracle if she
lasted the night....

At which point someone called her mum who then called Dave..

She died about 10.30 that night

OMG. I'm so sorry. Which is not sufficient.
Please no-one start about smoking.

I'm really sorry to hear this. What a horrible way to die. Purrs for
Dave and his family.

I agree - this is speechlessly tragic.

Thanks Tweed

It now turns out that the cigarette is the current police theory but
they don't know for certain but of course Dave's mum has jumped on it
plainly she was drunk (Dave's mother disowned his sister when she was
18 because she didn't like the company she was keeping even through
the psychiatrist mum dragged her to said there was nothing wrong with
the company to Dave's mum this proved he wasn't a proper psychiatrist
and anyway "he wasn't wearing a white coat") at 6 in the evening and
passed out. It could have been something else.

I am totally having to bite my lip with Dave's mum over this and so is
Dave (and Adam, Dave's brother who just got a call to say "Pam died
and I'm really upset" is also lip biting, he said "What happened?" and
she said he had no need to hear and put the phone down so he had to
email Dave to find out). I called her Thursday to see how she was and
she was going on about how many flowers people had sent her and the
neighbour came and sat with her which was "awful nice of them he's a
retired barrister and she used to be a doctor they're a much better
class of people there" then she started going on about how she should
have had a daughter to be looking after her in her old age.

Dave got it worse- he asked when the funeral was and she had a real go
at him: "Why would you want to know that?! You aren't going or you'll
be out of my will (if she changes the will as often as she says she
does there's a solicitor getting 2 weeks in Bahamas every year off
her). I want nothing to do with it , I won't be going and I don't want
you meeting the sort of people, they're scuffy, they have beards. Why
should you be upset about it?"

Dave said she was his sister and although in later years the only
contact they had was Pam calling him when she was drunk (she was no
saint by a long shot but you do wonder whether being thrown out at 18
by a mother who generally told her she was a whore had something to do
with it) and abusive from time to time and she hadn't even done that
in 10 or so years, Dave said he still remembered the good times when
they were kids and anyway the fact she died put things into
perspective, it was time to forgive and forget. Dave's ,mum informed
him in no uncertain terms she was prepared to do neither.....
