About Boyfie pooing in the bath. It used to be only in an extreme
emergency, but he's done it 5 times in the last month. It's always
overnight after he refuses to go out last thing at night because of
bad
weather.
It panicks him that he's had to, and I know he's done it because he
wakes
me up and gallops up and down the stairs. Like OMG, I just had to.
I will make sure he goes out whatever the weather. There is nothing
wrong
with him and until there is, pooing in the bath is not allowed.
There's a
litter box right next to the bath with his preferred stuff in. Earth.
but
he marches past it and poos in the bath.
Why?

Have you tried putting the litter box in the bath?

Joy
I did, it's pointless. He's made it clear all his life that he doesn't
"do"
litterboxes, they are for stinky cats only.

Sounds like my mother's (RB) cat, who did his business outside.
My mother didn't bother with a litter box and was glad she didn't have to
clean one. That meant when Scruffy demanded to be let out, he was let out
right away. Can't remember what happened when he spent the night at the
vet's,
except he escaped from his cage and was found wandering in the clinic.

Winnie

It's not that I don't bother with a litterbox, Winnie, I do. Boyfie is very
stubborn about it.

I know you do provide a litterbox for Boyfie.
You are a great cat mom.

Reading your post just brought back memory of my mother's cat, and
I shared it. My mother doesn't like litter box duty.
She probably won't keep the cat if he needed a box.
Scruffy belonged to her neighbours and when they moved away they asked
my mother whether she wanted him. Since Scruffy loved to come into
my mother's backyard and she adored him, she said yes.

Mom said Scruffy was a more 'lively' cat than my Rusty, who never went
outside except to the vet.

My cat could not have escaped from his small stainless steel cage when he
was at the vets. They have in-patient dogs too but not in the same room,
imagine what would happen if a cat got into the dog room or vice versa.
Would never happen anyway.

"If" Boyfie cannot genuinely hold on overnight, I am Ok with it. Although
I think he can and just got away with it too many times recently.

If he keeps doing it he will visit the vet. If he is fine (I think he is)
he will have to spend the night in the conservatory where he can get out
into the garden instead of in his bedroom.

Scruffy slept at night outside a lot. Of course my parents live in
a residential neighbourhood so it is relatively safe. My father used to get
up in the middle of the night to let Scruffy back in. Scruffy just sat
quietly on the door step until somebody opened the door.
I miss that cat, though not as much as Rusty.

Has Boyfie had a recent checkup by the vet? I know this has been an
ongoing problem for you, but it is important to make sure that he does not
have a urinary tract infection. That is a common problem with male cats.

It's not a wee problem, it's a poo problem, Mary.
I've told him "if you poo in the bath once again, you'll have to spend the
night in the conservatory"
There is a nice bed in there and he can get outside.
He would, of course prefer to be in his own bedroom but I have said "you
keep pooing in the bath, you lose your bedroom."

I'll see what happens.

I find that any unexplained change in behavior merits a trip to the
vet. If Boyfie hasn't been pooping somewhere and now suddenly starts
to do so, he could be trying to tell you something.

Except this isn't *new* behaviour. If, for whatever reason, Boyfie
can't go outside when he has to defecate he uses the bathtub. He
absolutely refuses to use a litter box for that bodily function no
matter what Tweed puts in it, be it actual cat litter or earth and leaves.

Oh. Well, all cats are weird. I once kept the litterbox in the bathtub
since I had a shower and never used the tub. I suppose sprinkling some
cat litter in the tub isn't feasible?

Has somebody else peed or pooped in the tub? Cats will be driven to
erase the scent of another cat's spoor with their own.

I will phone the vet but I know there isn't anything medically wrong with
him. He cannot be bothered to wait. He got me up at 5.30 am today
scratching in the bath despite he was out until midnight. I leapt up to let
him out of course.
If he continues to do it, he'll have to spend the night in the conservatory
where he can get out to toilet. There's a bed in there, it's where he
used to sleep when he was a lost cat.

It's so frustrating. I have no idea why. Keeping him inside for two weeks
after his operation was a nightmare. He didn't wee or poo for ages. I
think he had some idea that weeing or pooing in the house even in a
litterbox is a badboy thing.
