Ugh. That's even more sad than the last morbidly-obese cat story
somebody posted. Unless the reporter was just selective about which
quotes he used, it leaves the impression that the owners are somewhat
proud of abusing that poor cat and seeking more attention and will just
continue to shovel thirty pounds of food a week to him. And the vet
who was quoted in the story can't be much of a vet, either.

I just posted a message about this, before I saw yours. Ripley's is
actually glorifying animal abuse by including something like this, and I
